Hello 😀

I'm sure these questions have been answered before, but I'm going to ask again . . . If anyone know the answers for sure I would really appreciate hearing from them 🙂 espcially if you've recently taken the test.

I have a BS in Bio with minors in Chem and Physics - I have at least 2 solid years of bio, 1 year inorganic chem, 1 year organic chem, 1 year of physics, 1 year of calc, and some biochem (plus all the basics - composition and all that . . .) Should I be ok on the PCAT are there any holes in my past education? Any suggestions for areas of focus in ANY section on the exam? How difficult are the questions - I've heard the exam is more to test how you 'think' rather than only your knowledge of the subject matter - true?

I am planning on taking the PCAT this June and was considering just planning on the October one as well as I'm feeling a little rusty. But, I can't seem to find a difinitive answer anywhere in regards to taking the exam more than once. Are the scores averaged? or can I take my highest score? In other words does it hurt me if I take it twice and don't do as well on one exam as the other? Do schools see all of your scores? or do they have to be specifically sent? 😕

Also, does anyone have any opinion or information regarding pharmacy programs outside of the US? I'm interested in living in the UK for a few years, but want to be accomplishing something towards a career while there. But, I want to practice in the US . . . is this the correct forum to post to regarding the transfer of degrees/exams needed to first get into a foreign school and second to practice in the US upon my return?

ANY help is greatly appreciated! THANKS!

Your background is fine.

The PCAT is a basic test. The organic chemistry is basically nomenclature and reactions (the simplest type of questions) and the general chem - make sure you read up on nuclear chemistry - very basic topics.

Math is high-school math with a little bit of calc I (just basic integration and differentation).

Biology is very basic and s mostly about cellular development and some basic anatomy.

You should get close to 99 with your background, if you study Kaplan and some other books, very easily.

By the way, are you from the UK? You have a Chinese name (assuming the last name is Yuan).

Oh, one thing I forgot. There is an additional foreign equivalency exam, called the FPGEE (or something like that) for foreign graduates. I would call schools like the Univerisity of Florida to find out how international pharmacists could practice in the US (they have an international pharmacy program). Do you know anything about pharmacists working in the UK?

Hello 🙂

Thanks so much for the reply, it makes me feel much better 😉 I will be going through several books for review and taking some practice exams.

I am from the US but have always wanted to live abroad and my Spanish is not fluent enough for me to go to school in Spain 😉 So London is next on my list. . . and yes, the last name is Chinese, my father is from Hong Kong

Any ideas about taking the exam more than once?

I don't know anything about pharmacists in the UK, their pharmacy set up seemed very different when I was there this summer. But, then I wasn't really paying much attention to it. I will definately call the University of Florida.

Have you taken the PCAT recently? You sound quite familiar with it.

Thanks again!
