Do you think it's possible to take the PCAT without having took Ochem? I have it in the fall but obviously will not finish the semester before I need to take the PCAT

Definitely. I took the PCAT without taking any Ochem classes and did very well on the PCAT. Just use Dr. Collins and it will prepare you enough for the Organic Chemistry questions. Also, the questions for Ochem on the PCAT are only up to Organic Chemistry 1.

Pretty much just master Nomenclature and ALL the reactions for Ochem 1. Use Dr. Collins for a more detailed explanation on what to study over.

Good Luck!

Only need to know substitution and elimination reactions!

PCAT changed since you took it. Organic Chemistry is slightly harder than when you probably took it. That said, it is still pretty shallow. But I imagine it will be quite hard if I never took Organic Chemistry before. I suggest you buy the practice PCAT test Pearson offers and see how you do.

Lol you make it sound so easy.

I took it last September. Has it changed since then? If not, the only reactions that came out were substitution (mainly) and elimination.

I took it without ochem, calculus, and only some biology. Didn't use any test prep stuff and made an 83 composite. If you do well in other areas like reading it can balance out.

It is definitely reasonable to take the PCAT without Ochem, and you can always schedule to take it again in the future (most schools will take your highest scores).

I took the PCAT during July after my freshman year and ended up doing pretty well, so if you feel comfortable go for it.

That being said, get a review book such as the one offered by Kaplan and study study study!
