Hey guys, I tried looking at similar threads but wasn't able to get a clear answer..
I received a provisional acceptance from PCO and was told to retake the OAT although they didn't specify a certain score I should be getting.
My question is would they revoke the acceptance if I were to do worse the second time around?

Just wanted to ask here before I emailed them 😀

just wanted to bump this thread since i see 84 views but no reply 🙁
I guess no one's been in a similar situation? i just want to make absolute sure before I email PCO, I wasn't sure if it was proper to ask because they really didn't even mention anything about what score I should get even though they specified at least a C in the microbiology provision I also need to fulfill.

Hey sorry, I don't know the answer to this but I was wondering if you could pm me your OAT scores. I'm e-submitting my app this week and my scores aren't great either. Thanks!

Hey luvely,

I believe you need a minimum of 300 in each section. PCO's average OAT score for the entering class of 2010 was a 310. They've told me to at least get a 300 in each section. Do you mind PM-ing me your OAT scores/GPA? I just want to get an idea on where I stand with my application at PCO.

Thanks and hope that helps!

At my exit interview at PCO, the admissions lady went over my OAT scores and told me the national average of those that took the same exam. My physics was 20 points below the 290 average. I got accepted. It really depends on each person's app, like if you did great in Physics as an undergrad but didn't score so well on the OAT, it could offset the lower score.

@sunnydecember
I got the interview before they received my initial OAT scores so I would say if they like the rest of your application there is no need to worry. they may recommend you to retake the OAT like they did for me, even before they asked I wanted to retake it since it was 290 TS =T (i took it way too soon and wasnt ready)

@Eye Understand
Thank you for your input and advice! I appreciate the reality of your answer, I really need to study as if in fact I am not accepted to PCO because nothing is written in stone. i'm going to write an email now just to get the matter off my mind it's driving me a bit crazy. plus i guess it's best to find out the latest I can take it by if im not ready by january! i will post their reply when i can

@Browneyes2011
as mentioned before my score was 290, highest section 330, lowest 270 =/
my gpa was 3.2 with a bio major and also a minor. I am working at a technician at an optometry practice plus I've shadowed at 4 other places (a day each)

I hope this helps! 🙂

Hey luvely, may I ask when you submitted your application and when you had your interview?

And to your question, I would believe they would revoke the acceptance if they felt your OAT scores were not up to par. I don't think you should worry about being revoked at all, be glad that you know you're accepted if you do well 🙂 which is really doable if you put time aside to study efficiently.

@ztr2
I submitted July 22nd but it wasn't fully sent out until after August 27th because I had to have a transcript from another college sent in, I think after the apps are complete they submit every Thusday? or something like that. But it still takes time obviously to mail out, ect.

I got the email for the interview Sept. 15 and I scheduled it for mid November.

hey sorry i didn't notice this post. Yes, at this point the oat retake score has to be high enough to offset some lower class scores.

PCO emailed me and this is what they said:

In regards to OAT scores, the Committee likes to see scores of 300 and above. If you are required to retake the test, the Committee would be looking for an improvement in scores from your previous test. The deadline to submit scores is June 1, 2011, however, we recommend taking the test before that date.

so i will definitely work to improve my OAT and get over a 300 on every section!

hopefully this thread helped those that are having a similar issue. cheers👍

Thank you guys for being so helpful and encouraging, I really appreciate it!!😍

Hey, luvely!
I've received a provisional acceptance at PCO too, but haven't taken my OAT yet. I've been studying for like a month or so with Kaplan and scheduled the test for Dec 23. But I start freaking out now cause I'm afraid I wont be ready to take it in three weeks. You posted the PCO response regarding the deadline of submission. Do you possibly know if this concerns the first takers as well? I mean if I decide to postpone the OAT until the middle of January, will I have any problems regarding my provisional acceptance? Or is it better to take it now and in case I do not do too well, I'll still have time to retake it? (considering the three month period between the exams)
thanks!

I am in the same boat as PCOSTUD, well sort of. I have not even submitted my optomcas yet because i am waiting for my fall grades to show up on my transcript and I have not taken the OAT exam...it will be my first time in January or even February depending on how my studying will go. Do you think it is too late to take it in February though? Does anyone have any advice for me?

pcostud - I'm really not sure if that deadline applies to first timers, it's really best to contact PCO, they'll set you straight 😉 I would say though it's a good idea to give yourself enough time in case they might ask you to retake it.

cocolove - It's really best to contact the schools you're applying to. Best of luck!

I just received a acceptance letter from PCO (no provisional) although I'm having a tough time deciding which school to go to. anywayz my OAT scores in the science sections went pretty well but I did horrible in the Reading and Math sections (below 300). I told them I didnt have enough time and it was my first and last time taking it. In my opinion I believe the school would prefer students to do extremely well in the science sections. Since you would have to take it again just do better than previous scores. (none below 300) oat destroyer and kaplan materials helped me out a lot. good luck!
