Sorry for another "chances" type of thread but ...

I have a 28 MCAT and 3.5 GPA. Extracurriculars are OK ... not as much research experience or shadowing as some other folks seem to have, but overall a pretty decent looking application. PCOM is my top choice for med school.

People are telling me that I'm good as gold at PCOM, unless I do something like throw up at the interview. Are they blowing smoke up my butt or would I really have to screw up my interview not to get an offer of admission?

Not looking to get stroked here. I know my stats are above the PCOM averages, but these people seem to think I'm a shoe-in.

nothing is a shoe- in....they only interview around 15% of applicants....just hope you have something besides grades that "stands out".....If you get an interview then you likely have a good shot as I remember seeing the % accepted after interview to be >50%

I hope my letter of rec from a friend from an international internship who is a M3 at PCOM will atleast push me over the hill into an interview! and hopefully my 2nd MCAT score will as well.

yeh getting the interview at PCOM seems to be a crap shoot. They get the most applications of any of the schools which means more needed to standout

Can anyone tell me how long between having a complete file at PCOM and receiving an interview invite?

Yea for me it was close to 3 months for an interview as well. However, I can't remember when I was complete.

good as gold is a fairy tale

its very variable...it was almost 3 months for me....and I know others got one in a few weeks......but that was 2 years ago....

Ah yes, the great application cycle of 04. Ancient history.

I was complete around the end of august, and just received an interview invite today on 9/25--so it was around a month.

congrats on your interview invite Rachael! I was "complete" around the end of august as well but I called just last week and they told me that they did not have my LOR's, but upon closer inspection they had them all along. I hope they don't take an additional month to review my file. 🙁

Thanks Terp! I was completely not expecting the interview invite, but I am ecstatic bc PCOM is my #1.
Good Luck with everything.

PCOM is def my number 1 as well (for DO) and my other 1 is Drexel which is also in philly... Just finished Temple's secondary as well. I really like Temple after doing their secondary bc they have clinicals at Geisinger...

So basically I have no idea why I've added this response.🙄

because PCOM rocks---I really hope I get accepted and not waitlisted--I'd be really sad if that happens!

Geisinger Danville?

That's awesome.

There's a small group of 3rd years right now who are doing their entire 3rd year core rotation at Geisinger. It's completely voluntary, it's a small group ... and this is the first year they are allowing students to do the entire 3rd year core rotation at one place.

Geisinger's been a rotation site for PCOM for a long time ... I think Temple and Geisinger is relatively new. Geisinger is also a rotation site for Jefferson too.
