PCOM-Georgia
Pros
  • Close to family
  • Urban/suburban; more fun area
  • Has their own GME residency programs
Cons
  • Graded
  • Higher cost of living
  • New trimester system starting Summer 2025??

CUSOM
Pros
  • Close to undergrad support system
  • Affiliated residencies
Cons
  • Rural (Lillington, NC)
  • Graded (preclinical only)

Summary: I have strong ties to both regions and am super torn! Not really sure which one is a “better” program and would like to prioritize whichever school will best set me up for success. Both have similar tuition and stats. I do like how diverse urban environments are but have no issues in rural communities. I always thought CUSOM would be the obvious choice since going to undergrad in NC but I do like the idea of coming home to Georgia!

How close to home is PCOM GA? Are you particularly close to your family and could use them for support?

I don't know about the new trimester system. They had a whole thing about trying to do one curriculum across the 3 campuses that had some complaints a year or two back.

PCOM GA is just a short drive away from home! I’m lucky that family was still a strong support when I left for college in NC and thankfully I have a support system in both GA and NC.

I still don’t have a great idea of what makes a “good” DO school and which will be best in helping set me up for success. Also not quite sure how PCOM-GA compares to their Philly location. If anyone has any insights that would be amazing!

I don't think it gets the benefit of the main PCOM campus. Both are solid programs. Campbell has Research Triangle in the vicinity while I do not know what PCOM GA has. Emory is not far, so perhaps that is their route for research if you are interested in a competitive specialty.
