Where are you going to stay? Are there students we can stay with like there is at other schools? Or do we have to make our own arrangements?

Anyone know: is it true that PCOM prefers PA residents? Any advice for the out-of-staters?

PCOM is a private school - there is no in/out of state preference...

PCOM is only 35% out of state even though it is a private school. NYCOM is private too, but there is a substantial amu of instaters (80%). Although, both do have people from all over the country, just not as many as other schools.

If you can believe this I sent the secondary appl. out on a Wed. or something. I received a letter from them the following Wed. saying they received my secondary appl. and my $50. Three day later I receive a letter inviting me for an interview.

Question.
1. When did PCOM start interviewing or have they yet. It is hard to believe I am one of the first.
2. How many people are interviewed on a given day.
3. Is an interview this early a good thing. Meaning are people more likely to be accepted after an interview when it is in mid-Sept. compared to mid-Jan.

If I may ask....How long after your application was sent out by AACOM did you receive your secondary?

I got my secondary within 1 1/2 to 2 weeks after PCOM got my AACOMAS (primary) app. PCOM seems to work very fast.

Answering Raptor's questions...

**1. When did PCOM start interviewing or have they yet. It is hard to believe I am one of the first.**

I'm a student at PCOM, and as far as I know, PCOM hasn't started interviewing yet. Interviewees sit in the "fishbowl," and I haven't seen anyone there yet. So, yeah, I think you're one of the first.


**2. How many people are interviewed on a given day.**

About 8-10 people are interviewed on a given day. Basically, you get there, wait around, have breakfast, wait around, then the interviewing starts. You wait in the waiting room that's enclosed by glass, so everyone walking past can see who's in there (it's called the "fishbowl"). You'll pretty much wait there all day until you're called to be interviewed. There will be two groups of interviewers (so if there's 10 interviewees, each set of interviewers will get 5 people). You'll be interviewed by 2, possibly (but not probably 3) people. The waiting is what sucks. The whole day is waiting!!

The good thing is that being in the fishbowl, the med students know exactly when people are being interviewed...this way, we tend to stop in and answer questions and calm all you nervous people down!! 😉

If I may ask....How long after your application was sent out by AACOM did you receive your secondary?

I received my secondary from PCOM within a week after AACOM sent my appl. I live about 25 minutes from PCOM though.

Hey raptor5, since you live so close, maybe you could comment on the surrounding area and the overall location of the school relative to Philly. I am interested to know if its easy to get into the city from campus. Also, is the area around the school safe? Like: Could you go for a walk or jog or something and be safe?

PCOM is on the border of Philadelphia. If you cross the street, you're technically no long in Philadelphia; you're in Bala Cynwyd. So, basically, you're not in the middle of the city like many of the other medical schools in Philly.


PCOM is totally safe...at least I feel safe there (and being a girl who comes from a relatively small town, that says a lot). Actually, let me clarify....the PCOM campus is safe, but I wouldn't recommend walking beyond campus at night or anything like that. The surrounding areas are kinda iffy, but not "dangerous"....you just need to use common sense.

If you want to go for a walk or jog and be safe, we actually have a soccer/football field behind our parking lot (I don't recall if there's a track around it). That, I would imagine, would be pretty safe during the day time.....especially after classes because people play frisbee, rugby, etc. on the field.

To add to DOin2007's answer a little PCOM is in Philly. It is on a street called city line avenue. Downtown Philly is anywhere between a 10 and 30 minute drive depending on traffic. The area of Philly where the stadium is is a little bit farther south beyond downtown. PCOM is also very close to Gladwyne where some of the richest people in the Philly live. E.G. Alan Iverson and M. Night Shyamalan (filmaker/director of sixth sense and signs). Actually I believe they are neighbors.
PCOM is also situated next to a few hotels and Philly affiliate TV stations.
Not a bad area, but I would be careful at night.

I am currently attending undergraduate school in Philadelphia and live on the outskirts. I have no complaints about the area (although New York is still the best 😀 ). I haven't heard from PCOM yet, so I am getting a little anxious.

Are you getting ready for the big day? I will be interviewing that day (sept. 15th) as well and I have to admit thinking that it is only a week away gets me a little nervous. What about you?

Have you heard anything about how to prepare?

What is the interview like? Panel, 1-on-1

What types of questions do they usually ask? Ethical or Personal

I just can't believe that my first interview is only a week away. This whole experience has been so surreal-like a dream come true.

Quick question - I just received a postcard today stating that my application is now complete, and that I will be reviewed with all other completed applications. Then it is stated that preference is given to applicants from the Appalachian area. What chance does someone from CT really have? (after all, the Appalachian trail does go through CT, but I'm on the coast).

BACMEDIC......i think you have a good chance if you have decent numbers. i'm a FL resident and received an interview with average stats, just an upward trend🙂 good luck

Had my interview at PCOM today. 11 people. 2 guys and 9 girls. Adcom Committee meets for the first time tomorrow. So anyone who had an interview today and earlier will know by the end of the month.
