Hey, I have been accepted to both PCOM and LECOM so far. I have always wanted to be a surgeon (what kind doesn't really matter to me) and was wondering which of these two schools would help me better secure a surgery residency. Any help on this matter or just in general about these two schools would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, Thanks. They both have their pros and cons i just didn't know if one had better connections than the other.

I agree. They simply have a better reputation and alumni network.
This is not necessarily the case. The Docs who founded LECOM attended PCOM.

Interesting that all the "hear say" is coming from pre-meds yet I have bias? Just stating facts. Never said that LECOM was superior to PCOM - that's not my vibe. Just trying to add to the conversation. Every school has it's pros and cons and no school will be a perfect fit for every student.

For example: I would never choose a school for myself in the city, I would hate it and I would be miserable regardless of how good the school is.

Cabinbuilder you are awesome and I enjoy almost everything you've written. But I've heard very very mixed things about lecom whereas I have ONLY heard good things about pcom, especially when it comes to getting into more competitive specialties. Think you might have some alumni bias

Not particularly. Just stating what I know. No one has 100% positive reviews. Just keeping an even keel. Again, residency comes down to the INDIVIDUAL - not the school. Remember that.

Both are fine schools but stack the deck in your favor: PCOM

If you look at PCOM affiliated surgery residencies, most of the residents are from PCOM. It's not like that for all DO school affiliated residencies. I don't know what accounts for that but it's most likely regional or alumni bias. Now in my limited premed perspective it seems that you'd have the best shot at matching surgery residencies going AOA instead of ACGME. PCOM matches more to AOA programs than any other DO school.
