PCOM (Philadelphia) Discussion Thread 2011-2012

Congrats everyone on all the acceptances!!! 😀 Just curious, what is the deposit to hold your seat at PCOM? I know some of the osteopathic school have a pretty steep deposit. (Then again, I guess it goes towards tuition anyway...)

$250 non-refundable (due usually within 30 days of acceptance....shorter time frame as the cycle goes on)

$2000 non-refundable deposit due before April 15

Thank you! Not so bad in terms of initial deposits. It's definitely going to hurt when we all have to make our first tuition payment! :scared:

After your interview here, how long does it typically take them to get back to you? Or does the adcom have a specific day each month they meet?

I think they have specific day(s) that they meet each month. I just happened to have a quick interview turn-around. My interview was on a Monday and the letter was dated the following Wednesday, so it really all depends.

One of their admissions counselors told me if you don't have higher than a 24 MCAT, don't bother and submit the secondary...they don't give anyone less than that an interview this year...so yeah I thought that was kind of rude. Yeah, it's a low score, but I thought DO schools do a holistic review looking at more than just numbers...guess not.

Just a FYI.

That can't be true because I had a 23 and was interviewed Nov 2nd and accepted on the 19th.

does anyone know if PCOM keeps letters of recommendation from the last application cycle? I am a reapplicant and was wondering if I need to send the letters again.

Wow, that's quite a speedy turn around! I guess I will just have to wait and see.

I believe we do. Call the office tomorrow and make sure though.

Does anyone know when the board meets again? Is it this week because of the holliday last week?

It's randomly once each month. Last month (this month... November) it looked like it was the week or so before Thanksgiving (I think it was the 15th).

They told me at my interview that I would know by the 15th AT THE LATEST.

Ok cool thanks! Wasn't sure. When did you interview?

I interviewed on the 16th of November (the same day apparently that letters were sent out!). I think I JUUUST missed that round, but overall it seems like PCOM is quick at getting decisions sent out.

hey guys just wanted to see if anyone knew how much of the class is filled up? PCOM is my number one choice and i got my secondary in about half way through September and am still waiting to hear back.

My scores aren't as competitive as i'd like them to be ( 26Q and 3.01c 2.8s) but i have great letters of recommendation and EC's. I also went and took an "unofficial" tour last week with a friend of mine who is a first year and it only reassured me that PCOM is the place i want to be.

Any comments/feedback concerning my chances at this stage in the game are appreciated. 😕

Hey guys,

I have been complete since early October. My stats are uGPA 3.23, sGPA 3.08 SMP GPA 3.47 and most recent MCAT (August 2011) was a 38S. Haven't heard anything from PCOM yet - should I just chalk it up as a loss?

If you're local, I would visit.....otherwise I'd send a letter of interest/updates (if you have any)

Seriously getting so damn frustrated with this school. Just make a decision already! My file has been totally complete since 9/23 and I've got a lot of other interviews but PCOM is my clear top choice. Just do something whether it be interview, rejection, or hold list. I think it's rude to just sit on an application for this long </vent>. Is anyone else in the same boat?

It's really annoying but PCOM waits until the end of the cycle and sends out all of there rejections at that point. Not saying you'll be rejected, but at this point it's either gonna be no news or good news :xf:

Looking at last years thread, there was a bunch of invites the week before Thanksgiving and then again the first week of December...but this year I haven't seen anyone get an invite since before Thanksgiving!?

Seems like there has been a drought for PCOM interview invites - anyone heard from them lately?

Nope, hang in there Jim-- waiting here too. I'd imagine there will be a large batch prior to Christmas.

Hang in there!! Hopefully you'll hear something soon.

UGA2008 you're from AZ too? I'm hoping the mail will get to us quickly!

Yep... good ol' Arizona. Honestly, I don't anticipate more than a couple day delay in mail time (as compared to living in PA).

Any interview invites or acceptances? It has been pretty quiet!

Seriously! I'm just patiently waiting...

Interviewed 11/16, and we were told we'd have a decision no later than the 15th of December!

ahhhh have an acceptance else where BUT STILL WANT PCOM!!! I also wish they would give me something. Even a letter saying, "hey, we are still looking at your file." oi.

Hi all,

I was at PCOM yesterday, really impressed. Happened to catch that there was a stack of about 20 thin envelopes in an outgoing mail tray in the admissions office. Not sure where they are going or what they say, but they were taken by the time I finished. If you are waiting, good news may be on the way?

Good luck to all!

I'm assuming those would be some of the notification letters... (they said they would all initially be thin, single sheet letters-- not allowing for "premature discrimination" upon opening the mailbox!)

Exciting! My Drexel final decision letter just went out Mon/Tues as well. Big end of the week here...

Interviewed last week and loved PCOM. It's going to be a LONG couple days waiting for mail!!

Good luck everyone!

Still hoping to get some love from PCOM. Philly resident, complete since 9/26 and trying to stay optimistic. 😳

Just received my acceptance at PCOM 😎
Interviewed November 28th
Accepted December 10th

Letter dated the 9th. In Philly so I got a quick turnaround

Anyone else get this?

"The Faculty Committee on Admissions has decided, following your interview, to delay a decision on your application for admission and has placed it on hold.

The Committee will review your application credentials at future Admissions Committee meetings. You will be notified as soon as a decision is reached. A final decision is made well in advance of the opening of PCOM in August, 2012 so the candidate has ample time to make definite plans for the Fall.

If you would like to submit additional information for your file, please feel free to send it directly to the PCOM Office of Admissions."

I'm sad it's obviously not an acceptance but is this the wait list? Going to call the admissions office tomorrow morning to find out more info...

It's not the waitlist. It's basically that they want to compare the other applicants they have interviewing. They could revisit your application as soon as the next committee meeting, or not until the end of interview season. I suggest maybe sending a letter of intent, and do some extra shadowing/ECs and get another letter of recommendation if possible. It's not the worst thing to be "on hold" but you may be able to help your own cause. And people do get accepted after being on hold, maybe they just want to wait through the next round of interviews.

Wish you the best! :luck:

Thanks! I will definitely do everything I can 🙂 It was by snail mail

That's what they told me last year and I got in with a 23 MCAT- I had a 3.8, and good recommendations. See if you can get an alumni or student to write you a letter. Good luck

Ugh, no letter today! Interviewed on the 16th of November... but I live out in AZ, so I figure that adds a couple days to the travel time

Accepted!!!

Dated 12/7 and postmarked 12/9, got it today in DC.

Good luck everyone...I'm stoked about this one. I really love this place!

Accepted! Letter made it all the way to AZ 🙂

add me to the list of people waiting to hear back from PCOM. I was complete in early Oct and haven't heard a thing since. I sent an email updating them on what I'm doing now about a week ago. Just hoping to hear back from this school. This has always been one of my top choices
