PCOM waitlisted

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wait-listed as well...PCOM is my first choice....29Q/3.8....NY resident...

I'm surprised you got wait listed. I had 3.87/25, PA resident. I don't think being a PA resident really has a big effect on it. I did have a D.O. LOR, but only shadowed a D.O. for 10 hours, but shadowed an MD for 80 hours.

Thank you. I have enormous respect for PCOM (as it is where i want to be next year!), but I was surprised as well to be honest. I was complete sometime in Sept., interviewed in February, and have a DO letter from a PCOM clinical prof.

I do, however, respectfully disagree with the state residence issue. Speaking only through anecdotes, it does appear that this year being a PA resident was a substantial positive. Anyway, not sure what happened, but i'm not losing hope! I really want this school!!! good luck everyone.

Oh wow. I was complete sometime after October, I never found out when that was. But received an interview invite in December for January.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll get in, your a great applicant.

Yeah my impression has always been that being a PA res. is a ++ .
BTW I don't think you're cause is hopeless! Sounds like you're coming from a strong position - keep positive for sure.

I applied to the Post-Bacc today. They said I will still be considered as a waitlisted student in the DO program, I hope so.:xf:

I am a waitlister as well, super bummed but anxiously checking the mail everyday.

I have been accepted to WVSOM and LECOM and chose WVSOM out of the two. I am also waitlisted at NSU-COM which would be my second choice.

PCOM is amazing and I hope to see you other waitlisters there with me in the fall and we can laugh about how crazy we are acting right now!

I completely understand your anxiety, but I find it very unlikely that the wait-list will move anytime soon- next several weeks. I agree with an above post that the AdCom probably has to meet this month to discuss the last round of interviewees (because it would be poor form to admit wait-listers before notifying recent interviewees). Anyway, lets sit tight and hope for the best.

Anyway, don't despair guys, I was waitlisted too, but I withdrew. They gave me a hard time during the interview because I supposedly applied late (complete in early oct. just to let you know), was double dipping (applying MD & DO) and was already admitted somewhere else (yeah, at the PCOM GA campus! Go figure!) 😎

Just read the newest edition of US News report American Best graduate school magazine today at bookstore. I am really amazed that many D.O. have average MCAT score in the range of 8.8 to 9.2 like TCOM, Touro-CA, DMU, Western, NOVA, MUS, UMDNJ, LECOM. Looks like D.O. stats are going up rapidly.

I wonder why PCOM refuse to provide any stats to U.S. news report. 😕

For $250 I will, tomorrow morning, walk into admissions and give them a full letter of recommendation for who ever wants it.

Just throwing that out there. An administrator told me once that admissions looks very favorably on applicants who have LoR from faculty, current students, or alumni.

Only if it gives an acceptance. If not I want my money back.

disclaimer: i'm getting neurotic...

do you know your friend's approximate stats? pa resident? I feel like this class is very full I wish it were a normal year! Thanks. Good luck to all.

I think next date for you guys to wait for is May 15 because that is the deadlines for MD schools. Remember that Philly has 4 MD schools so people who applied/accepted to PCOM more than likely applied to those schools as well.

True, but I find it unlikely that many students in the area have sent their deposits to PCOM while still deciding on where (if they were already accepted) to send an MD deposit on May 15 as the PCOM deposit is hefty...so, i would think these students would have more likely withdrew from PCOM post-acceptance if they already had allo acceptances...If what you meant was some people will give up their seat IF they later get an allo acceptance, that is more likely, but allo waitlists in this area don't seem to move well...i doubt that date will have a significant impact on PCOM's wait-list...just my humble opinion.

Yea I am a NJ resident who got interviewed April 1st and got a acceptance yesterday- my stats were a 3.3/28 along with the army backing me and a slam dunk interview. Don't despair too much there is still a shot.

I think someone got in off the waitlist...look at the PCOM school specific discussion

It appears to be so. Maybe this is good news for all of us, them going to the waitlist this early in the game, I mean. I hope so. I want to be in PCOM so bad it hurts, not literallly but in more of a metaphorical sense. Good luck everyone and please keep us updated with any new information you all get.

Hi.. i just wanted to wish u lots of good luck..i am also waitlisted .. at VCOM..so i know how you feel... i am sure we'll hear some good news.. take care 🙂

Well this is exciting that they have started taking people off the waitlist already! Let's hope for the best!

Good luck everyone! :luck:

Nope. Nothing new. Does anyone actually know for sure around how many people are waitlisted? I'm thinking of calling admissions and seeing if I can get any information out of them.....

When I was passing by the admissions office on thursday, there were at least 200 letters stacked on the counter waiting to be mailed. Maybe they are being sent to DO applicants?

oh wow. it's things like this that get me anxious all over again! well thanks for the news and I guess it's still early enough to remain hopeful!

I got a letter in the mail today reminding me to pay my $2000k deposit by May 15 (I was accepted late). But I don't think that could account for 200 letters... I doubt 200 of us were accepted after March.

Do chances of admission at a DO school go down a lot if you apply to MD schools as well?

No. I was never ask for this.

In the main PCOM discussion thread someone (who hadn't received an interview invite) said that they got a rejection letter today. So it's probably likely that these letters are rejections...

Great, now not only do I have to take finals, which I really need to stop procrastinating on studying, but I also have to worry about being rejected.

That person also said that they were not granted an interview. It has to be both rejections and acceptances. They finished looking at the last interview group so we should be hearing something, anything very soon. If not, there is always the May 15th deadline in a few weeks.

Just as an aside, the admissions office also has to send out letters for the biomedical studies program, too. It is possible that some of those letters are going to those students as well.

Good luck and keep us updated

I'm pretty sure that if we are on the waitlist they can't reject us now, right? I thought we technically couldn't be rejected unless there are no openings for us come the first week of orientation. I think they were only sending out rejection letters to people who didn't receive interviews.

So I wouldn't worry about a rejection letter this week for us waitlisters.

So I called the admissions office today and asked a few questions:

- The admissions woman said that there has been no movement off of the waitlist yet. She also said it's impossible to predict when there would be movement because it all depends on when candidates back out of the program.
- She said that there are 75-100 people on the DO waitlist.

Man that sucks !

Now, I know this is not true because I've talked to two people who have been pulled off the waitlist. One of those people is from this forum (so he could be lying), but the other one is a friend of mine so there has been at least a little movement. Or perhaps they got the waitlist letters by accident?😕

And even if I didn't know about that one guy, surely there must of been at least one person who didn't pay the 2k by April 15th or whatever it was, right? So there must have been some movement.

I don't know, best not to think about it I guess. There's nothing you can do but wait

Good luck to you all!

Just reporting what I was told....I was confused too because I thought there had been at least a little movement... odd.

Actually I'm not sure that the person here was really pulled off the waitlist. If you read his story it looks like there was major confusion in the admssions office regarding his decision... something like he was told by phone he was accepted, then after a really long delay got a waitlist letter, then two days later got an acceptance letter (or that was the gist of it anyway) so it led me to think that maybe the waitlist letter was sent to him in error or something and he was really accepted all along. It was hard to follow. Also, regarding April 15... I know they were still interviewing up throught the first week of April so at that time maybe they were still offering acceptances to the later interviewees and all of the "delayed decision" people (rather than pulling off the waitist) based off of who didn't deposit by 4/15...

The deadline for people accepted from March on is May 15 so maybe there will be movement then, once they've accounted for all of the initial acceptances. Also that is the big M.D. deadline so maybe people holding a spot at PCOM who are waitlisted at allopathic schools will see movement on those waitlists and drop PCOM if they get pulled in elsewhere. Especially to one of the 4 M.D. schools in Philly.

Anybody else apply to the biomed program? I have been getting some mixed reviews about it. I applied for it a couple weeks ago but I don't know if I should spend all that money. I have a pretty decent GPA (cumulative 3.5). Do people apply for it if they have bad MCAT scores? I honestly think that my MCAT is why I am being waitlisted.

You got a 22 on the MCAT. Its pretty obvious that this is the reason why you got waitlisted. There are other people out there with better MCAT scores and higher GPAs that are also on the waitlist.

I just think that a 22 is a really low MCAT for PCOM and a 3.5 gpa is only mediocre with that MCAT score. Plus you don't really have an exceptional app. You shadowed for 2 days total. I think you got really lucky getting an interview there since they receive more applications than any other DO schools out there. You are a PA resident... Good luck though.

hi everyone. I was just wondering what your stats were that got waitlisted. thanks!

27R MCAT, 3.7 cum gpa, 3.5 science. A lot of ECs, leadership positions on campus, lab bench research project 1.5 years, volunteered at the hospital 2 years, shadowed ophthalmologist for a summer. Thought my interview went well.... Waitlisted at PCOM.

jeez gorgi that sounds pretty impressive. did they give any specific reason? when did you apply?

When did you apply? When did you have your secondary complete?

PCOM works on a rolling admissions, so if you applied late, regardless of your qualifications, they aren't going to bump you in front of someone who had their apps in earlier. Sad reality unfortunately. You have a very good resume'. Don't be discouraged, you have the requirements and will get in somewhere with those marks.
