I have an interview coming up at PCSOM and I was wondering what airport would be best to fly into. From my search, the nearest airport was about 2hrs away from the Pikeville. Also, I have been trying to get a hold of someone in admissions to reschedule my interview (conflicts with anothe interview I have) for the past week. I always get their voicemail and when I finally got a hold of someone, they transfered me to someone elses voicemail. After leaving 2 voicemails and calling repeatedly for the past week, I'm getting a little frustrated. I hope this isn't a sign of how the school is....

Pretty much all the airports you would be flying into are about 2hrs away. Those being Lexington Ky, Huntington WV, or Charlestown WV.

Yeah, all the airports are about 2hrs away. I haven't heard of a shuttle to or from any of those places. Not too sure what to tell you about the phone tag. I will say the school is small... limited numbers wearing multiple hats. Works well when no one's on vacation or calls in sick. 🙂

The admissions office has been very busy the past couple of weeks. Angel is usually really good about returning phone calls. She gets probably a hundred phone calls a day and she may have just simply missed the message. I would try emailing Angel and see if you can get hold of her that way.

do you have her email? it's not listed on in the letter.

a little update for anyone else thinking about PCSOM. i finally got a hold of the director of admissions to reschedule my interview and they said that they would put me on a list of "to be rescheduled" and she said that i would basically be fit in anywhere from january (the earliest) until april. i think this is kind of ridiculous because i have been granted an interview before other applicants but i can't make it the day that they requested. now, i could be interviewed AFTER someone that just submitted their app within the past month or so. i'm REALLY hoping that my other interview goes well so i don't even have to deal with this.

If it is a problem for you, reschedule your other interview. You don't sound that interested in Pikeville, but I may be wrong.

i was invited for my other interview first and i already had the plane ticket booked. i am interested in pikeville but the other school is my second choice. those two factors alone made it an easy decision for me to reschedule pikeville's interview but i know plenty of students who had to reschedule interviews and the schools would give them a different date when they called. pikeville told me that they would squeeze me in sometime between january and april. yes, they could be screening for die-hard pikeville loving hopefulls but not everyone has pikeville first on their list. also, what if i had an exam that day? i'm in a post-bacc program at drexel and i take my exams with msI's. i am not allowed to move and exam for whatever reason and getting a zero on an exam for an interview is definitely out of the question.

i know it may seem that i'm griping a lot here but pikeville looked very good on paper and my limited contact with them over the phone this past week shows me a completely different side that makes me hesitant of attending that school. but of course, the interview would allow me to see the school in person and get a better idea of the school.

I am sorry that your experience with PCSOM has not been completely positive. I have news for you though, no place will have a "perfect" program. Actually, the admissions office is great and they work really hard to make sure that the applicants have a smooth transition and experience. You wont find a nicer tandem of people than Angel and Deann. They not only have to worry about incoming interviews, but they also have to complete tasks for the first and second year students. They have a lot of meetings and other responsibilities. I know that you were probably unaware of this, and I know that the application process is highly stressful. You must have patience to be a medical student and eventually a physician. If you are getting annoyed this easily now, then you will struggle in medical school to maintain focus.

If I know Angel as well as I think I do, I would not be surprised if you get an interview in January. She does not like to keep applicants in the dark and will tell you as much as she knows. I interviewed in December of last year and was accepted three days later. I honestly dont think that you will be affected that much by interviewing in January or February. Some advice, be nice to the admissions staff at all the schools, you have no idea how hard they have to work.

If you would like to discuss anything else, please feel free to PM me or post on this board. I think that when you do interview here, you will find that the school has a lot of positives. I am a student ambassador at the interviews, so I will get the chance to meet you in person. If you like, I can discuss the school with you in great detail and take you on a tour.

I wish you luck on your other interviews and hope that your post bacc program is going well. Have a happy Thanksgiving.

aaron,

first of all, thank you for your reply. i do sympathize with admissions committees at all schools because i see first hand what our director goes through. she is always trying to balance her work between taking care of us in our program as well as reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, and even recruiting at colleges. as i said, my comments are from VERY LIMITED experience with the school. i have not said that they are a bad school but i feel that i must now take a really good, long look at the school when i am there.

i guess my frustration stems from the fact that this whole application process is very stressful and the program that i am in adds even more stress on top of that (imagine applying to med schools as an MSI). last year i applied and received no interviews and so far this year i have received 2 interviews before january which makes me very excited yet anxious.

my comments were mainly in response to the previous poster (pikevillemedstudent) who stated that i might not be interested in PCSOM, which couldn't be further from the truth. i'll admit that they are not first on my list but to say that i do not sound interested in PCSOM is simply is not true. why would i have applied to PCSOM to begin with then? i have read a lot about the school and everything looks promising...that's why i applied. the interview will hopefully reflect everything that i have read about the school.

If I sounded harsh, I apologize. Thanks for explaining your situation a little better. Sorry to hear about the problems you are having with admissions. We tend to interview later than other schools so I wouldn't worry about having to interview as late as April(which is unlikely). I know plenty of people that got in that interviewed in April. Good luck with your other interviews.

Hey there,

I hope that you had a pleasant Thanksgiving! I agree with Pikevillemedstudent. I dont think that this will happen, but I would not be concerned if you interview in April. I would say at least 10 of my classmates were accepted int April of 2004. Try to enjoy the holidays and do not let the admissions process get to you. I wish you luck in the process and if there is anything I can do to help you, please dont hesitate to contact me. Have a great Holiday.

I have recieved an interview at PCSOM and I have left two messages for the admissions director stating that I am going to show up for the interview but I have not heard back confirming my interview. Should I be worried? I don't want to keep leaving meassages feeling like I am harrassing them.

I don't think you should worry. I remember that I had to call a bunch of times before I got a hold of her. I would say just keep calling till you catch her. I would not leave any more meassages, I am sure she knows your going to be here. You could try to email her...

Good luck at your interview,
