I would like to have a PDA-type device to use for school, but I can't decide if a PDA would be better or a phone/PDA. I would probably want to take it pretty much everywhere, so it seems logical that combining it with a phone would be convenient. But for those of you have either of these types of device, are you happy with your decision?

Also, how's the battery life on something like a Treo? It seems that the battery power required to keep it on all the time would give it very short battery life compared to a normal cell. Thanks!

I was faced with the same dilemma a few months ago before starting rotations. I ended up going with the Treo 700p and recommend it highly. It's so convenient being able to have your phone, web capability, and programs like Epocrates right at your fingertips!

I have had no problems with battery life and it has easily lasted me through 30+ hour shifts.

The only downside I see is going out drinking/clubbing...when you want to be extra careful with this expensive phone/PDA in your pocket. 😉

I would definitely recommend checking out the new Treo 680...looks like a real winner!

Thanks for the feedback, the Treos definitely look great and are what I'm leaning toward right now. What made you go with the 700p over the 700w? I have heard Palm OS is better, but I use Windows on my computer, so would it be better for me to have something that runs Windows mobile?

I have a HP pocket pc thats great for keeping the sch in order, drug info and anything else I want to throw on it. But I kept my cell seprate. I don't have to always have the PDA and both cost to much to lose in one shot. I saw a mix in my hospital time of residents with pda's and others with the combo.

you will have no problem using the Palm OS with a windows background or windows pc. i personally find the menu options and navigation much easier/quicker with the Palm OS. if you're not sure go check both of them out. I have had an M500, Tungsten E, and just got a Treo 650 recently and have been extremely happy with all of them.
