Hi guys. I'm just wondering for what years I will need to get a PDA. Is it from 3rd year of medical school, or from 1st year of postgraduate (intern)? Also, what are the different softwares that I would need to get? I just read the thread about Epocrates. Is there anything else?

Thanks.

You will probably need a PDA beginning in the third year of medical school--no point getting on before that. check out the Technology forum for lots of good info on software.

Hmmm...when will you NEED to get a PDA?

It's a good idea for severe aortic stenosis, transposition of the great vessels and of course obstructed TAPVR. Usually a little PGE will make it happen.

Oh, you're talking about some computer thingy?

I never used the one I bought. Who needs to? I have a bunch of residents to look up stuff for me!

You can just whip out your SLIDE RULE and calculate those dosages, right! 😉

I did buy one during fellowship but I didn't realize the screen was so fragile and crushed it in less than two months...only had just gotten around to adding in addresses and phone numbers.

I would have thought you loved PDAs! A little cuttin' and a little clippin' and it's all gone. And the surgeon doesn't have to do the post-op care ventilation or worry about gas pains....

Thanks, I'll check out the Tech forum right now!

Ugh...don't get me even started about our Pediatric CT surgeons. Royal pains in the patootie. As a matter of fact, the 3rd year surgical residents on that rogtation were finally pulled off service (for good) because of the mistreatment. Thank God I wasn't interested in it anyway.
