I've noticed that a lot of people are selling PDF versions of MCAT books. Is that legal? Because it sounds like copyright infringement.

Also, why is SDN letting people do that (sell PDFs) on their website? Why haven't the mods taken those posts down?

Yeah, it is illegal.

Mark it as spam and the mods will move in to get rid of it. They are a volunteer force and don't have time to monitor everything.

Dude, the mods aren't robots. Help them out by reporting threads.

You can refer to the SDN TOS and preallo stickies for more info. There really wasn't a need to create a thread on this.

I'll definitely report it as spam whenever I see it. It's just that based on how prevalent these posts are, it'd be hard for some mods to miss them.

Report them when you see them. As the giant notice in the Classifieds section explains, we do not allow users to violate copyright laws by selling (or distributing for free) PDF copies of books.

They're so prevelant that they're hard to miss? I'm not sure what you expect out of the moderation staff, but it's a volunteer position and we generally read what's interesting to us. Since I'm not studying for the MCAT, I'm not likely to read threads on selling MCAT books. We rely mostly on user reports to guide us to problematic posts.

We promptly remove posts violating this part of the TOS and I would encourage you to report any such posts. I looked through some of the posts yesterday and today in the For Sale section and didn't find any suspicious threads.
