the decks in anatomy says that periodontal ligament is thickest in apical part while in dental anat. section says its thickest in cervical region
i know its thin in middle and thicker apically and cervically, but, out of the two where is it more thicker?????????????????
anybody who can guide in this?
thx in advance

Orbans says its thinnest in the middle because of fulcrum of movements of tooth here

I guess that didn't really answer your question....😕
I believe the most correct answer is - at the alveolar crest.

If you want to get technical...It varies with the age of the patient.

Take a look at - Carranza's Clinical Periodontology - 9th edition. In the chapter on The Tooth-Supporting Structures there is a table modified from Coolidge ED: The thickness of the human periodontal membrane. J Am Dent Assoc 1937; 24:1260. :luck:
