Hi guys,
As some of you realized, Pearson Practice Tests have updated to included the new 2014-2015 standards. One of the questions that I took on a less recent update of the chem section now has a different answer.
Pearson 2: Chem #43
What compound is formed by the reaction of n-propyl bromide (CH3 CH2 CH2 Br) with aqueous sodium hydroxide (NaOH)?
Previously the answer was noted as B. (CH3 CH2 CH2 O- Na+). Reaction proceeds via Sn2, blah blah blah. I wrote it down in my notebooks and was certain I didn't misread it
Now the answer is A. (CH3 CH2 CH2 OH), with the same explanation: proceeds via Sn2 but now adding on the hydroxide ion.
Could someone explain? Or are they both correct? Thanks!
