Just had a few questions for any pediatric anesthesologist out there or those that practice some peds

Are there any non fellowship trained docs doing ped cases and do they feel comfortable

Do pediatric anesthesiologists get paid more or the same

Are there any fellowships for both adult and cardiac peds in one year, where you come out feeling comfortable handeling both

thanks

Most peds cases are done by non-fellowship traines anesthesiologists. Some groups have peds trained guys who do all the peds, others have ones that only do the big cases.

There are no fellowships aimed at doing both, instead I would suggest you go to any decent residency in the US.

Most peds anesthesia positions pay about the same or even less than general anesthesia positions, especially if the general position is fee for service with a lot of private insurance patients.

I think it will become increasingly difficult in the future to do peds cardiac cases without a peds fellowship. There are a handful of practices out there where congenital cardiac surgery is done at private hospitals and you may not need a peds fellowship (or an adult cardiac fellowship will do). However, most cases are done at children's hospitals that only hire peds fellowship trained doctors.

All our partners do peds cases. Neonates are a slightly different story with different comfort levels, although very few of us are peds fellowship trained. Peds cases are a matter of routine, particularly in ENT.
