Does anyone have any information on how to make yourself a strong candidate for a pedi cardiology fellowship? My bf just matched yesterday in a city with only a community pediatrics program and no big academic programs nearby. I am worried about being competitive for ped cards when I will not be a resident at one of the big name schools. Is there any other way to strengthen your application? I have good step 1 score, good clerkship grades but don't know if these willl help at all. Any advice about how to improve my chance of matching in pedi cards while being at a smaller residency program would be much appreciated!

Got these pointers from a friend in Peds Cards at CCF.

If the program you are going to doesnt have a Peds Cards fellowship (ie comm hosp). You should see if you can request a Peds Cards doc as your mentor. Preferably one either doing research, or one who has connections with a program you are interested in (ie completed their fellowship at an institution you would like to be at).

If you could get in on a research project and get published, that would be great. Though I think the single most important factor is your own dedication to the pursuit of your dream. If you really want it, others will see that in you, and nothing will hold you back.
