From Baghdad Medical City - Letter #One
Hi SDN / Anesthesiologists group
It has been a while since I last posted here, but honestly was a challenging month after I transferred my residency program to Baghdad Medical City Teaching Center "The Iraqi prestigious residency center for Both Iraqi and Arabic Board Residencies and other academic degrees in different medical branches"
My First month of rotation was on OB and it was really fast, couldn't make it to write down notes and although the cases were abundant like acreta, C/S, hysterectomies... etc beside the shifts too and daily ground meeting discussion.
The Medical City of Baghdad has like 7 specialized hospitals in one complex located on Aresafa's Tigris river Bank in mid Baghdad.
In this months, I have started Pediatric Surgery Anesthesia, and interestingly one of our brilliant and fantastic teachers (they are so many, and luckily to be trained by them) is a specialist in his field of Pediatric Surgery Anesthesia (A trainer for trainees at the Arabic Board of Anesthesia and Critical Care) Dr. Riyadh Hamad, this Fantastic teacher had many distinct work in his field and I brought his two well known published articles:
1- Anesthesia through an intraosseous line using an 18-gauge intravenous needle for emergency pediatric surgery
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S095281801300202X?via=ihub
2- New Formula (22/17) for Calculation of the Total Amount of Intravenous Fluids Given for Pediatric & Neonatal Surgical Operations Weighing up to 20 Kg or 5 Years Age

Since, I am still in the Pediatric Anesthesia rotation, if you have any questions, I can pass it on to my Teachers, especially when working under limited resources, yet it is still the best in the Country, but we always face challenges!
(Remember, we talked about LFG anesthesia, and in this BMC they do it, some drugs are available but with shortage, facilities are better to be honest)
Honestly, I am thinking of Iraqi Podcast in Anaesthesia and Critical Care from Baghdad Medical City to be like ACCRAC, and I got permission, just waiting to be able to have some time!
Can't wait to share my next post to learn together with you...
