Hey all! Haven't seen any posts about pediatric fellowship cycle this year. Just wondering which programs you've heard back from so far. Most of mine are from East Coast programs, but not as many from programs on the West Coast... specifically California ones and Seattle, anyone hear from them yet?

No

Joining the party here! Didn't apply to any in California, but have not heard back from Seattle too.

Hey! Glad to hear from a few others. I actually got a couple from CHLA and UCSF this past week, have not heard from Seattle or Stanford yet. I wonder how this cycle will compare to last year’s…

So far I got interviews from:
UTSW
GW Children’s National
U of Miami
WashU
U of Chicago
Los Angeles Children’s
Colorado
Emory
Cleveland Clinic

Friends I know who are applying:
Cincinnati
Baylor

Heard back from CHOP a week or so ago and UPMC.

Also got some from UMich, WUSTL, Boston Children's, Cincinnati, Colorado, Loma Linda, Mayo, and Vandy

Has anyone had been through any interviews yet? If so, have they been pretty chill?

Interviews have been pretty chill! Only been through a handful so far but very conversational, low stress for the most part. Seems like invites have slowed down quite a bit now that that interviews have started to ramp up

With ITE results released now, does anyone know if there are there any programs that are requesting for updates?

Hope interviews have been going well for everyone! It's an exciting time

Don't know if it would make a difference, but anyone thinking about sending a letter of intent to their #1?

I wasn't planning on it since I mentioned in my interview with the PD that their program was my top choice and they jotted something down right after haha.

Also anyone know how many pediatric fellows Seattle averages yearly?

Ok cool, glad I'm not gonna be the only one then haha! Y'all planning on sending out towards the end of interviews? I'm thinking about sending in like the next week or two

Totally fine to do that - as long as it’s actually your #1. Have seen some people through the years send that email and then not match, even though they were ranked to match. Needless to say they were not invited for a job interview the next year.

Thanks everyone! Went ahead and sent one this past week. Hopefully wasn't too early...

Anyone care to share how they came to a decision of where they're wanting to go/rank at the top? So many good programs out there and I generally had very positive impressions at all the places I interviewed. I don't really have a strong tie to anywhere and open to working anywhere after fellowship so I've been unable to really tease out my top. If going just off gut feeling alone, my gut has narrowed down to 4 places but still hard to decide 😅

TBH, I just took a lot of notes throughout and emailed them afterward if I had any questions. So much of this process has just been "vibes," since we can't visit the places in person (mostly) and the only impression is a couple 20 minute interviews with faculty. Just take the entire day's experience with the salary, case-mix, call schedule and your own personal professional goals in mind to make a decision. It's a buyer's market in peds anes, so you should go where all your boxes where checked off for fellowship.

Hoping for the same! The next year leading up to fellowship will be exciting! 😄

No one wants to say anything? I’m curious what percentage of positions filled.Seems like the rate was around 50ish% last year.

This was great for me. I’m a few years out and grabbed an open spot in a great location at a great program. Excited to start in a few weeks.

Congrats!

What compelled you to pursue peds anesthesia fellowship after being out for a bit? Oddly I have seen very few people pursue fellowship after practicing for awhile, though we absolutely welcome it. Those with a year or two of practice pre-fellowship are often the best fellows (and then are exceptionally good peds anesthesia attendings).

The older I get the more I like peds and the less I like other stuff, especially while on call.
This 100%. I hate taking call…. But when I do I at least know I’m helping sick kids. And I think with kids the teams involved are extremely wary of doing anything potentially harmful or marginal (eg no re re re exlap of a basically dead ICU patient).
