In the comparison thread below, copro told us why not to do peds anesthesia. Fair reasons. I'm hoping to hear from people who went into it anyway, and why they chose it.

Also, if anyone can tell me about reimbursement rates as compared to general anesthesiologists, I'd appreciate it.

CA-1 here. From what I hear, peds anesthesiology is reimbursed decently. If you go on gaswork you will see salaries starting from 250 to 300 up to 500 as a partner. There is definite demand for these specialists according to my attendings. However, here in tx you can do just as well (and maybe better) without a fellowship, and without doing sick kids. Some of the salaries I heard of in dallas are astonishing (close to 300 starting, 400-500 as partner).

I don't know what year you are, but if haven't started residency yet, it's not worth even thinking about. There is so much other stuff to know/do before you get to a peds anesthesia fellowship. And the peds month you do as a 4th med student is WAY different than the one you will do as ca-2/ca-3. See if you like anesthesia first.

what about reimbursement for dual BC peds intensivists/peds anesthesiologists?
(like those coming out of CHOP and Hopkins)

also, are these guys/gals usually limited to working in academics in order to use their skill set?

thanks
