What are the salaries like for pediatric emergency medicine attendings at community hospitals or in private practice?

My understanding is that they are lower than adult EM... Is that true? And how much? I'd really appreciate some hard numbers.

Thanks in advance.

it depends on whether the Peds Er is under the juridistiction of EM dept or Peds dept, if its EM dept, then the EM and Peds EM salary is at par 120-150 per hour, but if its under the Peds dept, you would be lucky to hit an hourly rate of 90 per hour

Nobody in EM has to pay ancillary staff unless you run a doc-in-a-box (freestanding urgent care center). I've never heard of a situation where staff wasn't the responsibility of the hospital, not the group.

Do the 120-150/hr numbers also assume that one must purchase malpractice insurance, pay ancillary staff, etc (as one would in true private practice),

Yes Peds EM pays less than adult EM. It has to do with the lower level of acuity and reimbursement (which more than offsets the favorable payor mix). In my area Peds EM makes 60-70% of what the adult guys get. Around here peds EM gets about $100/hr.

No one who is doing EM rather than urget care has to pay their own ancillary staff like bartleby said.

What drmg456 said about the department overseeing the peds ED being an important factor in the pay may be true for academic centers but out in the private practice world the market makes those decisions. You can imagine that if one ED was paying significantly less than another it would not get staffed.
