Hi as a PGY-2 I have started looking into fellowships. Can any of the current graduates of peds path fellowship throw some light on the job trends and what sort of cases/private vs academics have been easier/harder to come by. Also what would be an appropriate time to apply for this fellowship.

Pedi path is a great specialty. You can find pedi only jobs or be the pedi-perinatal "go to" person in a larger adult group. Fellowships timeframes are variable, for instance our fellowship has one person signed up for 2011 but not for 2012. You can find them listed on spponline.org. The job market is fairly good, too. More pedi-only jobs are academic, but there are a few private jobs, as well. The academic jobs tend to advertise more, and the private jobs are more word of mouth. Good luck!
