Hi, I'm starting a peds sub-I in a week, and I need some help. I did my 3rd yr peds rotation abroad, so I'm not sure what's expected of me there. Are there any good resources? Any advice for me? I have a good command of peds knowledge and what to carry in my pockets- I am just wondering how I fit onto the team, what i am expected to do, who I am expected to consult, etc...
Thanks

Hi, your peds rotation abroad must have been very interesting. As for the Sub-I, I think the standard expectation is that you act as an intern on the team. For us, that meant being on call like an intern, working up new patients, coming up with the assessment and plan for the patients, writing orders that had to be cosigned by the upper-level, and making the consults. All of this was okayed with the upper-level on the team, of course.

I'm sure you already plan to do this, but make sure to speak to your upper-level (or attending, depending on how your team is organized) to get a clear idea of what the expectations for your role are.

Have fun! 🙂
