Hi, I am currently a PGY-3 in Pediatrics who will complete my residency in a few months. Afterwards, I would like to enter a Radiology residency and then do a Peds Radiology fellowship. My strong background in Peds will greatly add to my career goals. I have no geographic limitations. However, I am looking for a Radiology residency program with happy residents, nice supporting faculty, and good board preparation and passing rates. I will be ready to start Radiology residency after October 2012.
-I have no Radiology reearch experience: is it best to do reserach first before applying?
-How can I find off track openings since I will be ready to start anytime after October 2012?
-Should I start applying via ERAS for Radiology this July?
-How can I findout the board passing rates and education track records for different programs?

Any advice to the above questions is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Your Peds background does not help that much in radiology.
Do some radiology research and try to publish something. It helps.
If you do not have geographic limitation, you are in a good shape. There are a lot of solid programs in less desirable areas. You can get excellent training there and find a fellowship spot in a decent program.
the earliest time you can start is July 2014, unless you find an unfilled spot for 2013. Apply the coming september and see what happens. I don't think you need a prelim.

Good Luck

You're unlikely to do anything significant enough to matter in time for it to matter, in all honesty. If you have a great project lined up, certainly won't hurt, but it's unlikely to help much.

Www.residentswap.org, auntminnie.com, and I believe the AMA has resources too.
-Should I start applying via ERAS for Radiology this July?
Yes.

You basically can't. Unless you're a rock star with ridiculous board scores, grades, and evaluations from your current residency, you should just apply everywhere. Maybe avoid programs on probation.
