I'm a civilian pediatric nurse and am interested in becoming a pediatrician or neonatologist. I have the secondary from USU filled out and I am interested in serving. However, I am concerned that come residency matching, I won't be allowed to match into my chosen specialty. Does the military have many pediatricians, or should I need not apply? Thank you.

Pediatrics is one of the specialties which the powers that be have decided they want to cut substantially right now. There are active duty neonatologists currently but the training opportunities going forward don’t look promising. I think USUHS is a great school but if your goal is to be a neonatologist you probably should not go there.

Agreed. The future is too uncertain. I think this will all eventually blow over, but the damage will be irreparable.

Telling premeds they can only be one of five specialties is ridiculous and will overall negatively affect medical readiness.

Downstream effects also include enlisted quality going down because insurance/ability for their families to see a doctor will diminish.
