Pedo and Endo

So basically, my program director told us today that the AAPD is making a big push to get more pediatric dentists to do endo on permanent teeth for kids due to the fact that most endodontists dont want anything to do with the little monsters.....

for my future pedo compadres out there.......any thoughts on this?

I honestly thought i was done my very last endo EVER during dental school, cause I hated them with a passion.......I could see myself doing some anteriors, but definitely not any 6's

just wanted to get a feel of what other residents were thinking about this

I did endo on both 6s and anteriors in residency and will probably continue to do some anteriors in practice. Mostly trauma type stuff but I'm sure I will refer more than I will do.

That's the beauty of dentistry. You choose to do what you want. If you don't like doing endo, refer it. Nothing wrong with it and it probably would really slow down a pedo practice.

Bad Vibes, I wouldn't let you do endo, let alone an occlusal on my dog! I think the rest of us might be able to learn some anterior endo techniques, but you should just stick to your fluoride dosing.

j/k....i was in practice 2 years before getting into pedo residency....i thought it was a good thing because i was forced to do all the molar endos....broke my fair share of files though...heh heh....now doing anterior endos are relatively simple...

Bad Vibes, I wouldn't let you do endo, let alone an occlusal on my dog! I think the rest of us might be able to learn some anterior endo techniques, but you should just stick to your fluoride dosing.

Ur absolutely right wodie......I had the kid's health as my primary concern....which is why I shouldnt be anywhere near files of any sort (you could argue a drill as well)

as far as the varnish goes......at ucla, they call me the friggin varnish King.....Im like Picasso with that brush..

you're still using a brush with varnish 😀 use the ole pointer finger, much easier!
