Pedo and Part 1

Hi,
I understand that for any specialty, they look for an overall strong application for selection and not just academics.. Now, I am in a situation where I want to retake my part 1 to improve my score (its in the high 80s right now) to improve my chances of getting into Pedo. I need advice. Is it possible to prepare for part 1 in the 3rd year of dental school? also, does Pedo require a score of 90+ to get in like Endo/Ortho..
All guidance will be appreciated..

I would try posting this at www.DentalTown.com where you'll probably get a response from real live pedos and residents. Most everybody here is still in dental school or college and probably won't know much more than you. Though that will not deter anyone from posting.

I actually went and saw some related posts on dentaltown and they say these programs are really competitive and need NBDE part 1 above 90, though there are people who get accepted below that score.

Three individuals were accepted into different pedo programs from VCU for the upcoming year. They all had 95% or above. The three individuals who applied and were not accepted had 92%-90%.

I have a hard time believing that everyone was over a 95% who got into VCU for this coming July. I talked to the director of the program and 2 years ago the average of the entering class was 86% on NBDE Part 1. Either they made some dramatic changes and it is the place to go or you might not have the best info. Just my 2 cents, who told you that dickie?
