I was anxiously awaiting so much that I had to leave my CABG at 12:05 pm today during induction because I couldn't wait to get the results (with the attendings permission of course). At least I got my first pick, so I guess it was worth the wait!

It's nice to hear that pediatric fellowships finally went to a match system. When I was applying for fellowships in 2005 there was no match and it was chaotic.

From the perspective of an attending at a training program, the new match is a huge PIA. We had several times more applicants than before, we had to interview many more applicants than before, and we had to set up disruptive interview days. All in all a giant F up. And it costs the applicants more time and money to apply as well.
I don't even know who we got because there were so many applicants they all blend together.
I pity the fellowship director.

Is there a regional bias with fellowship apps as there are with med school/residency? If I were in the East Coast, but was considering potentially returning to the South for fellowship (or trying something new and heading to the West Coast) would it be extremely difficult doing so with peds anesthesia?

No

Just wondering if anyone else out there is anxiously awaiting the results for the match for Peds fellowship 2012-13? 3 hours and ticking...

WOW!!!
There is a peds match.
I didn"t even know that this one is an approved ACGME program. ( T o follow - geriatric anesthesia, orthopedic anesthesia, endocrine anesthesia, teenager anesthesia. LOL)
I am getting old.
Oh - well - this will be the first one - right???
BS.
Hilarious.

Peds was approved for board certification recently. This was the first year of the match, and as an applicant, I echo IlD, it was an extremely bad idea... too much time and money wasted, too much required courting, and it's all a nuisance.

At any rate, going back home to TX at UT Southwestern for fellowship!

One of the guys from my class is going there for peds too

Agree. Although I'm obviously biased, I feel doing the fellowship opens a lot of doors for academic and private practice jobs. While 2win, you may be super comfortable with sick pedi cases, it seems a lot of my colleagues out in PP don't want to deal with them. Also it is getting much harder to work at a children's hospital or do specialized pedi cases (pedi hearts, etc) without the fellowship.

Would have to say however, the match process does seem to add a lot of hassle and (unnecessary?) stress.

I think he's spending too much time day trading.
Is pain still a boarded anesthesia specialty? I though it was just a bunch of physiatrists and weekend warrior CRNA's under the "direction" of the ordering physician now that the money's drying up.
Get a grip. 🙄
