It seems to me that the only discussions that go on in this forum are about peds specialty salaries and residency applications. Is anyone interested in talking about the practice of pediatric medicine? Is the problem that only med students post here, so no one has anything to share about actual cases or stories in pediatrics?

I'd love to start a conversation about things you've learned from your patients (or their parents) or interesting cases. Anyone interested?

btw, who on this forum is an actual resident or doc? (if you care to share 😉 )

Not to be sarcastic, but this is a "student" doctor forum. And right now, at least among my fellow fourth-year classmates, all the talk is about interviews and step 2 and our electives, because it's what many of us have on the forefront of our minds -- it's a pretty big turning point in our careers. I don't believe that this forum is limited to that, however.

i had a mycoplasma pneumonia present with terrible hemolysis a few weeks ago that ended up in the PICU intubated and gettign transfusions. her presenting symptoms were fever, cough, and "not feeling good".

oh, and i'm a peds intern 👍

i think as our people get into residencies, you'll see more clinical discussion. 😀

Two years ago my youngest kid got mycoplasma pneumonia and ended up hospitalized for a week with ADEM (acute disseminated encephomyelitis). She was very sick and couldn't walk, talk, sit, etc, but avoided the PICU. High dose steroids saved the day. When she went home, they told us she would need months of rehab, etc. Two days later she pitched her "walker" and a week later was nearly all well and has had no sequelae.

Quite an experience for a pediatrician!

M Pneumonia is not an entirely benign problem.🙁

The worst thing is that my older daughter and I had brought it home with us from a trip to the Grand Canyon - so the youngest got it without getting to see the Grand Canyon either....

Im a med in VietNam, and now Im praticing in Ped. I have a nephrotic syndrome case with oedeme, and very low albuminemie. Should I take an albumine tranfusion for this patient ? and if yes, when ? And after transfusion what should I pay attention for this patient ?
Im not a recident in ped, Im just a student, so i dont have much experience. I cant find any resource abou that. Can any one tell me ? 🙂

Ah, another question. 🙂
Is there any risk of OAP (oedeme acute pulmonaire) when albumine transfusion ? And is that right when saying that children seems easy getting OAP than aldult with albumine transfusion ?
