I'm going to do a peds hem/onc rotation next month. Does anyone have any recommendations as in books to read and how to prepare before I start the rotation?

Honestly, I would say Robbins. We looked at a lot of smears for the heme kids and the questions from my attending were fairly specific. Ankyrn, spectrin, band 3 in HS, bite cells in G6PD, why do you get target cells, sickle cell. I remember busting out the diagram on normal hemostasis and platelet defects straight out of that book and got a nice pat on the back from the attending. Oncology was questions about what proteins were expressed, translocations, etc. Stuff you could get from a step one board review book and supplement with the diagrams/pictures from Robbins.

There is a Washington Manual of Hematology/Oncology. I am not sure how much of it is peds, but it would be worth a shot. I hear it is a good read.
