For the OP: The AAP website has a lot of good career information. In general, the job outlook for pedi is good. There is, as there has been, an excess of general pediatricians in SOME cities and a shortage in many other cities and towns. However, even in the biggest cities, attrition and growth are leading to new opportunities - especially if one looks to the areas of the country that are rapidly increasing in population.
In general, there is a shortage of almost all pedi subspecialties, especially the "less traveled" ones such as rheum, endo, renal. Some of the specialties are more limited to bigger cities, others less so or at least one can live a comfortable distance away from a big city if you choose to make a bit of a commute. Most prognosticators expect a shortage of pedi specialists for a long period of time.
