does anyone know anything about this program, and what schools offer it? I am still not in dental school yet, but I saw on Columbia's website that they have had two students in the past get into this combined program. anyone with any idea what i'm talking about, and can refer me to any other sources of info, i'd highly appreciate it. thanks.

UCLA has one too.

I've never heard of such a program, and assume they are rather school-specific (like dental anesthesiology). In any event, I find it interesting since 99% (okay, I'm making that up, but it's gotta be close) of ortho is done on peds patients anyway.

This is true, but the scope of the two specialties are so different that it is possible to train in both. UCLA was the only combined program I had heard about, interesting to know that there are more. Some people do train in both specialties, and from what I've heard, these dentists set up their practice so that Mon-Wed-Fri is Pedo while Tues-Thurs is ortho (or something like that). If you are set on wanting to do both specialties and don't do it through a combined program, I've been advised by practitioners on doing the Ortho first and then the Pedo b/c Ortho is still more notorious to get into compared to Pedo.

At IUSD you can get combined degree with Pros, Perio, and Pedo. Hell, Roberts may even consider a combined Ortho-Endo resident...you never know with that dude.

a gentleman at Baylor just graduated with ortho and pros - took 4 years

Are these programs actually established at IUSD (and elsewhere) or are students organizing the combined program themselves with the respective dept chairs, ie ortho-endo (which seems a bit extreme).

I know that that Pedo/Perio/Ortho are organized programs. Any other program would be organized by the resident (with Dr. Roberts input of course  )
