Hi all,

I am struggling with my PS for peds. As an IMG I am in the dark as to what Program Directors are looking for in a PS about ped residency applicants.
I have lots of ideas on what to write about myself and my experiences, but as it needs to be short and concise, I am looking for tips on what I should focus on.
Could anyone detail a little on what the "perfect" PEDS res applicant would have written his PS?

Thanks

Please be aware that some are outdated but they still have good ideas on topic and structure. You should try to keep to one page single-spaced. Also, be aware that copying your PS into ERAS will remove all your formatting for both the CV and your PS so don't sweat it.

As an FMG doing different rotations/clerkships from the US system, I also used the Employment section to give a quick summary of my clerkships (since there is no other place to stick them in ERAS, and they are bound to be different from the US/Carib crowd).

The following are links to guides and examples of PS on the web. They vary in quality--definately have someone that you know is a good writer edit and proofread your essay. Avoid being overly mushy or melodramatic--in an effort to stand out many people lay it on really thick, an it becomes laughable.

This page has a summary and links to some examples. Of course they want you to use their service, but the essays give a good idea of what people look for in a PS if you can't get the book that gluteus max suggested.

If you search the web for "personal statement residency examples" I am sure you can find others as well.
