I've noticed a few posts recently mentioning that there are some Peds programs that appreciate AEGD/GPR's and real life experience and some that prefer fresh grads. Does anyone know of which programs specifically prefer work experience. And for that matter does anyone know which programs don't? I'm considering applying for the 2012 cycle. I'm an 08 grad, finished an AEGD in 09 and have since been working with the peds population both in the community health setting and private practice. Thanks.

Staten Island states they require a GPR/AEGD

From my experience and from what I heard from other interviewees:

Miami prefers new grads
Colorado likes a mix, half and half (this coming from the director himself)
Oregon likes a mix
U Louisville prefers experience

In NYC (highly recommend/require 1 year residency): Staten Island, Mount Sinai, St. Barnabas

I think all programs will give you extra consideration if you have a GPR/AEGD or a couple years of work experience.

For the UCLA programs
UCLA Westwood - Interviews and takes a lot of residents right out of dental school
UCLA Venice - probably values experience slightly more but still interviews and takes a lot of residents right out of dental school
UCLA San Diego - Few are interviewed w/o experience

Hey guys from my experience most programs look highly upon GPR.... Programs are mixed about experience. Some really prefer this and some would rather have people fresh out of school. I think just being humble if you do have experience is the key. As far as my program goes, they look most highly upon people who want to be in Minnesota. Not really sure how you can determine that, but they want people who want to be here. Not sure if that helps. Good luck everyone. I know it's a really stressful time.
