So my original plan of attack for the peds shelf was Blueprints, Casefiles and Pretest. I am having trouble with blueprints am not a big fan of the explanations-granted I have only read the cardiology section. I have kaplans step 2 books and like the outline of this book better. Has anyone not used the blueprint book and still done well on the shelf, or even used the kaplan peds book?

I keep hearing that blueprints is a must, is the cardio section in particular poorly written or is this a reflection of the entire book.

Thanks

Use First Aid for EVERYTHING. Blue prints sucks ass in absolutly every subject. Its for people that just want to pass. First Aid, First Aid...First Aid.

Are you refering to FA for step 2 and focus on the peds, or the FA for the Peds clerkship

Thanks

First Aid for Peds was pretty decent. A bit dry to read in its outline format, but all the info is there. Just be aware that the exam is very different from what they tend to emphasize during the rotations. The exam focuses on diseases. There was only a couple questions on immunizations, development, or guidance. Overall, it's not a very bad exam.

I think there are a bunch of good books out there, you just need to find one that suits you. Pretest is pretty decent, Lange's Peds On Call is good for lots of basic info in a good format; Case Files is awesome of course. I use an assortment of books and if one is no good in one area then I dip into another one. I have spent more money on peds books than I wanted but I guess sometimes you have to do it.

I used Blueprints -- the cards section was particularly bad. Other sections were good.
