Can anyone tell me what the scope of practice is like for a peds who does a fellowship in sports med? Do the practice in the same manner as a family med-sports doc? What are practice options?

That's going to be a tough one to get an answer on. I'll be the number of pediatricians who are trained in sports medicine is very small. Most general pediatricians deal with a great deal of musculoskeletal complaints and would bump the tough or surgical cases to Peds Ortho.

I spent some time with a sports med doc (FP trained) and they do see a lot of teens. They also work with 4-5 of the local school districts, as well as colleges, as team physicians, and go to games (especially football) to treat injuries. They supervise the trainers and physical therapists, too.
