Pen Vee Kay.
Was this professor American, and was he the type to joke around?
There's also penicillin G, X, O, and others.
He's American and said penicillin five potassium. He was the type to be serious. no one in class corrected him or anything.
Vee Kay
Brand name : Veetids

Are you at one of the very new schools?
Does the professor have a pharmacy background or got a pharmaceutics phd after a chem/bio bachelors?

Vee-Kay
I'll go out on a limb and say your professor is an idiot.
It's not V as in five.... because I certainly don't see any Pen I, II, III, IV molecules but I do see Pen G.
Either they named the mold based on Alphabet....or Latin V stands for vesco as in feed since Pen V K is an oral medication.
Now go correct your professor.

+1 on the idiot thing
it's definitely vee-kay, both east and west coast. Z just vouched for TX, so we've got the country covered.

I'm sure we all know about penicillin v k.
How do you guys say it?
When I'm working, we say "pen vee kay"
I've had a pharmaceutics professor say "penicillin five potassium"
In Canada, we say, "vee kay."
Your professor is insane.

I have never heard anyone refer to it as pen FIVE kay. That's just stupid. 🙄 But then, I do remember one time many years ago, when I was getting flustered and talking a mile a minute, and I mispronounced Arkansas as ahr-KAN-zas. That person I was speaking to must have thought I was stupid too. 😀

Repeat after me
R - kin - saw
Having been to AAAH-keeen-saaawww (in July, of all times), I would rather stick with the real KAN-zas, thank you very much, and avoid the other one altogether. 😛Repeat after me

how do you store all that "useful" knowledge in one human brain?Either they named the mold based on Alphabet....or Latin V stands for vesco as in feed since Pen V K is an oral medication.
Now go correct your professor.

Brain is like a household...the longer you live, more junk you collect and store. The key is being able to find the stored item. And I'm old and have been around longer than all of you...except for Old Fart and SDN1977 but she no longer comes around here.
I'll go out on a limb and say your professor is an idiot.

LOL...you're so full of it!
The Latin phrase for To Feed is Vesco, Vescor, Vesco, Vescor is defined as: to feed, to eat.
We'll never know... why don't some of you contact the manufacturer of PenVK
Sorry I couldn't chime in earlier. The professor is incorrect. I'm trying to be nice, otherwise I would call him/her a friggin ***** who has less than no clue about what they are speaking about and this statement makes everything else he/she says suspect.
If you needed more information look at the name brands of the Penicillins from the 1980's
By the way Z, that was a very short limb.
Goodman and Gilman's The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics. Sixth Edition, 1980.Several natural penicillins may be produced, depending on the chemical composition of the fermentation media. These include penicillins F,X,K and G.
If you needed more information look at the name brands of the Penicillins from the 1980's
- V-Cillin-K (Lilly) Not pronounced Five Cillin K
- Pen-Vee-K (Wyeth)
- Veetids (Squibb) Not pronounced 5-tids
By the way Z, that was a very short limb.
