I got an interview invitation from Penn dental and was wondering if it is worth going. I got into Buffalo and I am an international student, so the cost (tuition and etc.) difference between Penn and Buffalo is approximately 70k for 4 years. Currently I want to be a GP when I graduate, but as many people advise me, I may change my mind and think about specializing while attending school. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

take a walk on the wild side and come visit us here at penn!

I don't see a reason why you shouldn't go, unless you are pretty determined on going to UB. Both are great schools.

Ask yourself this question - if you were accepted at Penn, would you still go to UB? If yes, then there's no point in going. Where you graduate isn't going to make or break you. All DMD/DDS degrees are the same. The only people who really care about the name of the school are predents. I guarantee you it's your level of professionalism, hand skills and caring attitude towards your patients that make you a good dentist, regardless of where you graduate from.

With 70k, I'd rather buy a SLK55 Roadster. It's pure seks.

Because I'm right and I know it 😉

Well... mostly. My 70K would be headed to a different Stuttgart-based manufacturer :horns:

Haha. Thanks guys for your input. It seems like both are great schools. Still, even if i get into Penn, it's gonna be a hard decision. Any more advice?

I say go. You have nothing to lose! You might as well go and see everything so that you know for sure what you'd be giving up. I'd personally choose Buffalo over UPenn as well, (they are both great programs and I just don't think the money is worth it,) but you need to make the decision for yourself! Plus the difference will end up being more than 70K once you take into account interest... that being said. GO! Seriously. You have nothing to lose.

In the end, it's your life and your decision. I'm a person of pure practicality and my advice on dental school choices are almost entirely based on tuition and cost of living. BUT, you have to ask yourself what you feel is right. I've said this before to someone and I'll say it again - attitude can make or break your experiences as a student. I'm sure you know this, but whatever choice you make, you're in it for 4 years. Don't regret or think about the what ifs when times get rough like 2 straight weeks of finals etc. Most dental schools are the same and follow the same guidelines, so you're not really going to have it easier at another school.

I'm also an international student and I turned down my Penn interview after getting accepted to UCSF (and a couple of other schools that are more expensive). But another reason was that I'm on the west coast and travelling east again would cost too much. If you're closer and it wouldn't be too much trouble to go to the interview then I don't see why you wouldn't go. Potentially more choices can't be a bad thing.

I'd say save the money and time if you're not too sure if you want to go to penn
