Heya, I'm trying to figure out what the Penn State interview schedule is so that I can buy my plane tickets (I have a skymiles award that runs out on Monday so I have to schedule something over the weekend). Unfortunately the anesthesiology secretary is off today.

Does anyone know what the interview itinerary at Penn State will be (ie. what time the interview starts on day one of two)?

THanks !

I talked to her briefly on the phone yesterday. It included two "half-day" interview days. We arrive the night before, have dinner with the residents. I think the first half day is introduction to the hospital, the houstaff, the facilities, with some formal interviews the other halfday. I'm not *exactly* sure, as our conversation was pretty brief, but I think that's the basic gist. Plan on being there for two nights, arriving the afternoon before night one for the resident dinner. Should be done by the afternoon of the 2nd interview day. Hope that helps. PS..when did you/are you scheduling your interview?

Hey could you guys tell me if your invite showed up in your ERAS message box? Or just your email?
TY

Unless they have changed it, last year I only spent one night at the Hershey inn. It is a 2 day interview process. The first day didn't start until about 1 pm. This gave me ample time to fly into Baltimore, rent a car, and drive to Hershey for check in. We were done by about 4:40-5pm on day one and then went out that evening about 6pm with the residents. The next day they had the interview day divided into two groups. One had to be there at 7am the other (which was mine) didn't have to be there until 9am. No matter which group you were in you still finished at the same time. I think we were out of there by 2pm. I thought it was a pretty good setup. You were given an overview of the program on day one and then were able to go out that night with reseidents and ask them specifics of what you heard that day. Great program by the way!!!

I didn't realize Baltimore was so close to Hershey...how long did it take you to drive there?

we're having a pow-wow soon to discuss the logistics of this year's recruitment season. if i hear anything in particular to your questions, i'll pass it along. (and, yes, it is a great program - the ASA's model academic anesthesia program, in fact. and, yes, it is close to D.C., baltimore, philly, and even NYC for long weekends. but, it is also very close to harrisburg and, yes, there is a decent night life in hbg; good bars, restaurants, 2nd street is a place we frequently frequent. if there's time and recruits are willing maybe we can hit molly branigan's or eclipse after the dinner. but, either way just know there's a lot more to hershey - and the surrounding area - than you'll likely get to see at your interview.)

some info on our program from its leaders:

and on dr. kimatian, our residency director (who is incredible):

I would have to agree. I walked away from Penn State thinking it was the most organized and resident friendly program I had seen. I felt the PD (both former and new) were the biggest advocates for the residents even outside of the departmment. This program definately has their ducks in line without question. The only reason I didn't rank them higher was that we wanted to be closer to family. As far as how long it took me from the airport to the Hershey Lodge I would have to guess 90 minutes but that was a year ago so I don't recall exactly.

Hey Eagle26, sorry for not responding sooner...I did set up my interview. I'll be there Nov 17-18. When are you going?

Hermione: We received notice via email (if you haven't already found this out elsewhere).

I met Dr. Kimatian last year at the ASA and was impressed as well.

I'll be there Jan 2-3. Hard to do interviews that early for me because I'm doing my subinternship late october through november.
