Which would you pick?
Also, which has the better reputation?
I'm trying to make myself feel better after officially being rejected from one of them but don't let that influence you. I want the truth.

Sorry you don't like me talking about Jeff and Penn State. I don't really understand why. There has never been a poll of this before. I really really really wanted to go to Penn State.

🙄 You have got to be kidding me.

1. The fact that you need others to "make you feel better," demonstrates a bizarre dependence on public opinion and approval.

2. As if anyone who's read these forums with any kind of regularity isn't going to know which of those rejected you! 🙄 I mean, come on!

3. You "really really really wanted to go to Penn State," and yet you posted this before:

Interviewing this week. It's my dream school😍. I was complete in mid-September. I applied to the PSAP program.

JMC Class of 2013 - Hopefully. :scared:

If Jefferson is/was your dream school, then what are you so upset about?

The "dream school" comment was after I got a pre-interview hold at PSU, which is essentially a rejection. Honestly, I'm afraid to live in a city.

1. If you're that afraid to live in a city, why did you apply to a school that is located in the heart of one of the country's bigger cities? Lord knows there are plenty of med schools that are located in suburbs and even in the country.

And if you're afraid of the city, then why did you turn down your Drexel interview?? Drexel's in one of the suburbs! Most of their students live in Manayunk/Roxborough!

2. Then why lie? 😕😕 If what you wrote above is true, then Jefferson NEVER WAS your "dream school," so why say that it was? There's no harm in saying, "Wow, I got an interview at Jefferson. Cool, hope it goes well." Why lie and call it your "dream school" when it isn't?

Maybe you'll get lucky enough to go to Commonwealth Medical College. And if Scranton is too big of a city, you could commute from Tamaqua.

- Physician Shortage Area Program. I was attracted to the people who shared my interests (serving rural PA).

- Cost, didn't like the curriculum, no PSAP program, Drexel is still Philly. I'd rather be at Jeff because at least they have on-campus housing and I'll be living near my classmates. That increases the safety factor.

Rejected from TCMC. And, yes Scranton was also too big of a city.

So you already kind of knew that you were rejected from PSU....so why is the "official" rejection such a blow? 😕

You're not making any sense at all.

There was a very very small chance that they would still interview me. On SDN, it says pre-interview hold = rejection but I refused to believe it. I sent 3 letters, 2 emails, 2 additional LORs, and nothing.

First time I ever LOLed on SDN!!!! Bravo.
I think the whole thing has stemmed from the VCOM incident where you bashed the school. You then said NO to PCOM which is on the outskirts of the city but interviewed at Jefferson which is in the center of it. Now Jeff became your dream after rejection from PSU. You cannot ***** out these schools and take advantage of them, throwing them to the side when they don't work out.

Do the three second rule, give yourself three seconds to answer your question....

There you go that's you answer, trust yourself, trust your instincts :]

I don't mean to sound crass, but you don't need to be in a PSAP program to serve shortage areas later. I know this might be hard to believe, but some applicants might also provide lip service to those types of programs while interviewing then plot their climb to a derm/rads residency once they've been accepted. I know that I played to whatever a school's particular focus was when I was interviewing to give myself the best possible chance of acceptance.

And cost? I find it hard to believe that Drexel has a much higher tuition than Jefferson, not to mention that suburban living would probably be cheaper than Center City.

This does not make any sense.

Dream schools change depending on where you get in? 😕 So...you suddenly didn't want to go to Penn State any more after they rejected you?

This does not make any sense.
Yes, I believe that was his point. You know, I think you and John Kerry would get along famously.

I think the OP is confusing 'dream school' with 'top choice'..and everyone else is getting hung up on this technicality.
I understand where the OP is coming from, as at the beginning of the cycle, Pitt was my top choice. After being rejected from them, I really didn't have a preference for other schools. But after interviewing at several places, Penn State became my top choice.

I guess I could call Penn State my 'dream school' too, considering that is where I will be going to become a doctor. My dream is to become a doctor, so the school that makes happen = my dream school.

Thanks for understanding. That is what I meant. It doesn't matter anyway. It's not like I went into my interviews telling them they were my dream school.

You did WHAT at VCOM? You probably would have liked it there - pretty rural, not a big city feel.

But honestly, if you felt overwhelemed in Scranton (around the 90th largest metro area in the US), you're in for a HUGE, HUGE wakeup call in Philly (5th largest metro area).

You're on a waitlist, you still have a chance. Plus you have acceptances, which many on here do NOT have. Stop your whining and get over yourself.

You will be fine at Jefferson. It's a wonderful campus and a great school. And Philly's not scary at all.

I live in Philly and I worked for Jefferson for three years. If you need someone to show you around the city or the campus to make you feel a little more comfortable, I'll be happy to lend a hand. Once you get a feel for Center City you'll probably fall in love with it. And if you need to get away from the city for a while, Market East is two blocks from Jefferson and you can grab a train to any one of the outlying burbs with no problem.

Just try to relax and look at this positively. It's a chance to grow! 🙂
