Can any current residents or applicants with interview experience compare and contrast these 2 programs?

Penn State is an awesome program. An excellent four year program that includes outstanding rotations, attendings, cost of living, and case mix. Top notch, through and through. I cannot think of any weaknesses here, really. I never went to U Penn. Maybe others can add comments.

these are two (needless to say) different programs in different locations with different patient populations. if you want the city life, go to penn. if you want the more rural, country life (still with plenty to do), come join me at penn state. at either place, you're gonna get outstanding training and have no problems finding a great job (or fellowship) when you're done.

just interviewed @ Penn State. Great program, very cool attendings, sim-lab is cutting edge... just a great program through and through. Definitely in my top 3.

Strong program, strong didactics, awsome attendings and PD. Beautiful hospital and nice area of the country if you are into the outdoors. Some of the attendings participate in international outreach programs; as a CA-2 (or CA-3, I can't remember), you may have the opportunity to travel to china, honduras, guatemala and participate in operation smile. I've been overwealmed by their generosity and commitment to the residents. I really can't say enough about Penn State. I'll be leaving my current anesthesia program to begin my CA years in Hershey (due to a significant other that is currently passn' gas at Penn State- she loves it there. As a PGY-1 (not CA-1) she's been doing great cases. Liver lobectomies, VATS, gastric bypasses). 😎 I can't wait to join her this coming july!
