does anybody know the acceptance rates of getting Wharton for a dual MD-MBA degree after one matriculates at Penn Med?

probably not too high.
whoever does the pennmed/wharton program is a god in my books..

What kind of business experince do you have? I thought about doing a dual MD/MBA but ruled it out on the basis of cost for the additional degree. I also found it of limite utility because you can still get into investment banking or management consulting with just an MD if you go to the right school (Penn med would qualify).

i'm interested in doing the program too, although I don't have business experience....kinda spent too much time doing the premed thing. how experience does one need, does anyone know? thanks.

Does anyone know if it is possible to do the PennMed/Wharton MD/MBA program with only 4 years of tuition? I'd be very interested in doing the program, but the thought of 5 years of private school tuition scares the crap out of me.

My guess would be you do need lots of actual experience b/c Wharton doesn't accept anyone into their regular program (at least that I've heard of) who doesn't have real-world experience (I think I remember my mom saying that most people had about 5 years work experience, but I'll check with her and get back to ya 😉). I'll also see is she knows anything about Wharton/med school dual degrees.

Yeah, I was looking on Penn's website last night and it seems most people have around 5 years of experience. 🙁 BUT, it also says that prior experience is not required, and that a smalll percentage (like 2% I think) start at Wharton with less than 2 years of experience. Yep, I'd definitely fall in that category. Let us know what your mom says, Sweet Tea. Thanks. 🙂

wharton has something like 7 slots reserved just for penn med students each year. while it is not quite as competitive as the regular admissions, most people who enter have some sort of business or strong leadership activities. the most common focus, obvviously, is in health-related matters. i believe that one only pays 4 years of tuition for all of it - and it is completed after 3rd year and during part of 4th year (i think). you can apply after your first or second year in med school ... it is a great program and a powerful degree combination.

My mom didn't have anything to add...she worked in development at Wharton, not admissions. She just said that the MD/MBA program was very small and extremely hard to get into, and she wasn't sure if you absolutely had to have business experience to get into the dual degree program. But she did say that Wharton accepts MAYBE one or two people without experience a year. Don't know if those 1 or 2 people are in the MD/MBA program or not. Hope this helps, sorry I didn't have any more info.

I don't think it is possible to do both in 4 years. If it is, I would be first in line, but 5 seems to be needed. And no, there definitely are some spots for med students without experience. Generally, the med admissions office say that if you are good enough to get into Penn med, you are good enough to get into any other program (masters, law, etc) without applying, or at least just going through the motions of applying. The exception, however, is Wharton. I think it is between 35-60% of med students who apply get in, many of who have no experience but see a clear role for how the degree if going to be important and in accord with their future aspirations. So, while it is no sure acceptance, if it much better odds that just applying to Wharton without going through the med school.

Hey Bonds, do you know if students in the combined program are charged 4 years of tuition or 5 years of tuition? Thanks.

Yeah, and those three semesters of Wharton are, if I remember correctly, a good bit more expensive than med school semesters.
It is a great program, don't get me wrong. Top 4 in rankings in both business and medicine and unlimited opportunities for those who do it, but they don't make it super easy in terms of tuition and a fifth year or I guess everyone would want to do it.
