I got accepted to Penn and I loved the school .. anyway, I am 90% sure I dont want to specialize. Is Penn a good choice for me? I am afraid that my clinical experience will not be as strong (I could be wrong) if I go there. Should I go there if I dont want to specialize? Also, concerned about the area.. I am from a small very safe town. Last concern is that there will be cutthroat competition with no support...just throwing these comments out there and would appreciate it if someone could tell me what they know.

If you look at the post-graduate plans of the dental classes, many students enter private practice. It is unlikely that they are starting their own practices, so they are being hired by other dentists who have faith in their clinical abilites.

I don't have any immediate plans on specializing, although I am planning on doing a GPR (something that a dentist pursauded me to seriously consider some time back), and am looking forward to being at Penn. The area? Yes, west Philly is a bit rough, but you are going to have sore spots pretty much anywhere you go (Cleveland, Baltimore, LA, and on). And besides, you don't have to live in west Philly if you don't want to and use common sense as you are getting around and you'll be fine. Cut-throat? Yes, that has crossed my mind, but I'm not! 🙂 So if you end up at Penn seek me out - bingo! Instant study partner that won't stab you in the back.
