Hi everyone,

I am in the beginning of my PGY3 IM residency and due to some personal reasons, have to go back to my home country after finishing up my residency. However for me to practice back in my country I have to be licensed in some state in this country. So I am applying for PA state licensing. My question here is

1. The state website says international graduates need 3 years of PG training in the country before they can apply for a license. Is it possible for me to apply while I am in training and get a license?
2. Once I am licensed in PA to practice, do they give me a hard copy of my licensing certificate? Or is it just a license number?

Thank you all

Moving to Gen Res.

You cannot get a license until you have completed 3 full years. They will not accept applications more than 30 days prior to completion of your 3 years. See here: http://www.dos.pa.gov/ProfessionalL...Graduates of Unaccredited Medical Schools.pdf

PA used to give a "hard copy" of the license; many states no longer do but there are ways to prove it (assuming there is a reason you're asking). We have several members practicing or doing residency in PA so they can answer what the current status is.
