Hi all,

This is my first post and I've been reading other posts for as much info as possible, thank you. I am hoping to hear from other students in this same program...

1) I am about to start in the summer program and wanted any advice as to what classes are good/not good to take in summer?

2) Any professor recs?

3) Advice in general? What has helped you stay successful? Advice on getting connected to other students etc?

Thanks so much!

Which campus are you going to go to? I just got accepted last week into their MFT evening program for the fall.I'm pretty excited about it, I think it's a great program. If you here of any advice let me know! Congrats on getting in

Congrats to you! I am going to the WLA campus and starting in the Summer, early May. I am very excited also! Haven't gotten any other posts...I was hoping some current students might see this and respond 🙂 Will let you know if I find anything!

I'm also going to the WLA campus! Have you found any good places to live? I'm really excited I've heard good things about the program, a prof at my university's friend did this program and had nothing but good things to say. Are you coming straight out of undergrad?

Hey guys congrats on getting in to the program you'll love it I do..

I am in the General MA program but i will try and answer what i can for you since we share alot of the same classes and alot of my friends are in the MFT..

*practicum prerequisites* Try and figure out which classes you need to do so that you can start your practicum earlier rather than later, i dont know which classes those are but a statement they make alot is "i wish they told me i needed these classes first" I believe Tinnie or Deanna can tell you that information..

Ive had good profs and bad ones like everywhere else i dont really want to recommend somebody because their style might work differently for you, if you narrow it down to a couple of names i will let you know in a private message my opinions..

As far as being successful that is up to you, i am very outgoing and loud so most profs have my name down by the second week then once that is done i actively ask them about research they are doing, if they need help in their private practice, etc..this is not so important for MFT i guess as i am going on for my doctorate..however alot of them are in private practice and can help you with styles and techniques for when you do practicum and start your own therapy..

The work is not that hard, to be honest i have found it easier than undergrad because im learning only about my field, my passion has been so much stronger because of it.. just stay on top of your reading, do not be afraid to ask questions, go to the writing center, and ask the "smarter" people in your class to form a study group..

As far as connecting with other students well shoot that is the one thing about this program i do not like! It is all up to you to find like minded people and go out with them after class. There is an orientation and that is it..you will make friends in your classes but anything more than that is up to you to be outgoing and say hi to everyone..I am also a GA so that helped me meet more people..

I think someone said something about housing..again a wash that is all on you, I moved from across the country so i was at a disadvantage, currently I live in culver city which is where the campus is located and i pay about 1250 for 1bed1bath..

If this helped and you want more of my foolish rantings ask away..welcome to school classmates

I got excepted to the day format program today! I'm super excited and appreciate the advice offered here!

Spirit..thank you so much, I sent you a PM.

HappyGirl, I currently live in LA, although starting to look for a new place. Need a quieter place for this new adventure 🙂 If you PM me any specific questions you have about housing I would be more than happy to help anyway I can. I have lived here for over 12 years, which answers your next question, no I'm not entering directly from undergrad, its been about 10 years.

Sojealous...congrats to you!!!

hey sunni my inbox was being kind of funky just now either i sent you four messages or none at all let me know lol..
