Hey guys congrats on getting in to the program you'll love it I do..
I am in the General MA program but i will try and answer what i can for you since we share alot of the same classes and alot of my friends are in the MFT..
*practicum prerequisites* Try and figure out which classes you need to do so that you can start your practicum earlier rather than later, i dont know which classes those are but a statement they make alot is "i wish they told me i needed these classes first" I believe Tinnie or Deanna can tell you that information..
Ive had good profs and bad ones like everywhere else i dont really want to recommend somebody because their style might work differently for you, if you narrow it down to a couple of names i will let you know in a private message my opinions..
As far as being successful that is up to you, i am very outgoing and loud so most profs have my name down by the second week then once that is done i actively ask them about research they are doing, if they need help in their private practice, etc..this is not so important for MFT i guess as i am going on for my doctorate..however alot of them are in private practice and can help you with styles and techniques for when you do practicum and start your own therapy..
The work is not that hard, to be honest i have found it easier than undergrad because im learning only about my field, my passion has been so much stronger because of it.. just stay on top of your reading, do not be afraid to ask questions, go to the writing center, and ask the "smarter" people in your class to form a study group..
As far as connecting with other students well shoot that is the one thing about this program i do not like! It is all up to you to find like minded people and go out with them after class. There is an orientation and that is it..you will make friends in your classes but anything more than that is up to you to be outgoing and say hi to everyone..I am also a GA so that helped me meet more people..
I think someone said something about housing..again a wash that is all on you, I moved from across the country so i was at a disadvantage, currently I live in culver city which is where the campus is located and i pay about 1250 for 1bed1bath..
If this helped and you want more of my foolish rantings ask away..welcome to school classmates
