Perkins loan deferrment rejected

I tried to get a deferral on my Perkins and it was rejected with the reason being my loan started after 1993. Has anyone been successful getting the deferral during residency? I consolidated my other loans but not my Perkins because it was going to make the interest rate higher plus I thought I could defer it. Any suggestions?

The rules changed for Perkins loans in 1993- no more residency deferment. Who knows why they still put that option on the forms. It wouldn't have helped a huge amount anyway, since they only allowed 2 years of residency deferment anyway.
