Hey guys,

Do you know if students that are in the process to become a permenant resident (greencard holder), can apply to dental schools as permenant residents? or no?

If they apply as international students, then their chances might be hurt to get in a school. If they get their green card after they have applied, they might have to waste an entire year (since dental schools saw that person as an international student).

??

Claiming to have a resident alien card when you don't, even if you're in the process of obtaining one, would be a major misrepresentation on your application. If something in the process goes awry and it takes longer to obtain than expected, or if you don't get it at all, you're left holding a pretty big bag. It's one of those things where it's better to tell the truth and take your chances than lying and taking them.

private school do not care what your residency/citizenship is as long as you have the grades and pre-reqs.

Best of luck in the process.

If you dont hold a Green Card or you dont have an approved petition for it you are an international student. In this case you need F-1 visa to stay in the country legally. For this porpoce you need the dental school to issue you a visa and you have to apply as an International student. However if you decide to stay iligally in the country you can say you are a citizen and you can even apply as an instate if you pay your taxes and have a SS#. I dont recommend you the second though cuz they MAY find out and you will be f?cked up.

I have applied for green card for one year and INS sent me SS# and A# on the receipt also. I called to ask about A# and they said it will be my green card # after i get it. In this case, am I still an international student? I'm gonna apply to dental schools next year for Fall 2005. What should I do? Thx.

On the letter that you have received from INS does it say something like: "The above petition for ajustment to permenet residency status has been approved". If you have this you are already a permenent resident. You just have to wait for your green card to arrive. This may take up to an year. If you have only a notice of action though then you are an international student.

As comet has said, if you apply to private schools, they wont care where you are from. What is your citizenship? If you're canadian, getting a student visa is a piece of cake.
