Here is my situation. I have lived in the US for the past ten years. I have a green card (permanent resident) and am applying to Med School this spring. I am wondering if it makes a difference that I am not a citizen, if there is any discrimination against permanent residents, if my chances of being admitted are jeopardized etc.

I would appreciate any input or feed back.

Thanks

No, it does not make a difference. You'll just have to copy your green card a million times and send it to each school  Good luck! --Trek

Or if you prefer:

Nein, das ist kein Problem. Aber man mu? das Greencard viele kopieren, und schickt die zu den Schulen.

I'm a little rusty so pardon any errors! --Trek

Danke Trek,

Diese Neuigkeit erleichtert mich. It sure does good to 1) hear German and 2) read you reply.

Thanks.

Kein problem Herr Doktor! Ich habe ein Greencard auch, aber ich bin nicht aus Europa. Die Schulen muss sehen, das man festgelegt ist. B?rger oder Permanenter Bewohner (sp?) nicht macht aus. (I hope that last part made sense!). Gutes Gl?ck, freund! --Trek

It can make a difference in terms of certain sources of funding.

Dr. Doktor, it doesn't make a difference for federal funding (Stafford loans, etc.), fortunately, but some schools are weird about it for their institutional funds. I'm a permanent resident, too, and Duke considered me an "international student" - I had to sign something in my Duke application saying that if I was accepted, I would put the full tuition amount in some special account before the semester started.

Anyway, they rejected me so I never had to find out how that actually worked. I had totally forgotten about it until now. Hmmm, that really would have sucked, come to think of it!

I don't know if Duke's the only one, but they're the only one of the 20 or so secondaries I did.
