Hi, all.

Does any of you know whether the schools have any preference between permanent resident and citizen? If they do, about how much...?
I am Permanent Resident, but currently in the process of applying for citizenship (I'm done with fingerprinting, but still waiting for an interview date. It's being delayed cuz the office kinda messed up my file 🙁 )
Should I let the school know that I'm in the process for citizenship? Would it be helpful at all?

One more thing,, my dad is currently planning to start a business. So technically, he's unemployed right now. When I answer the question regarding the occupation of my dad, should I put "unemployed"? Does this kind of thing really matter anyway?

Anyone have a similar experience with mine? or heard of something related to this? Please let me know. Anything will be helpful.

Thanks!!!!

I think the legal requirement is that Permanent Residents and Citizens are treated equally.

I have heard the same. Permanent Residents=Citizens, except when one commits a serious crime, one can have Permanent Residency revoked.

Yes -- Dr. Z. is right. Permanent residents can get their residency revoked for serious crimes. Otherwise, they are treated equally with citizens as far as admissions to schools go, because they also pay taxes -- or will pay taxes, or have parents who paid taxes, etc.. (Public schools give preference to tax payers within their respective states -- so I hear. Although the process seems so random!) But being a foreign national without permanent residency in the US, I know that permanent residency and citizens are pretty much the same -- it is the visa holders (i.e. J visa, F visa, etc) and other non-permanent residents who are given slim shots at schools, public schools mostly.

Not quite sure how the parents information affects application though.

Thank you for all the answers!!! 🙂
