Hello,

in my senior year i did poorly in one class, that is Nanobiology which i got a D+ in. I completed my BS degree in biology. My school required us to take 5 upper class science course so i choosed nano b/c i thought it was interesting. Then in the spring semester i decided to take another upper class science course genetics and got a B in it ( i took it because i wanted it to shadow my d+ in nano). My question is, should i mention the D+ in my personal essay? i really worked alot that semester, or should i leave it out of my personal essay?

Hi! I think you should absolutely leave any negative experience (academic or personal) behind your personal essay. This is YOUR time to shine and to show the admissions committee what you are capable of, rather than any "bad luck" that happened to you. Your transcripts already have that information, so why to "remind" admissions committee about that. Tell a story of your life, tell about your passion and your success. Hopefully it will be enough to cover any negative marks you have.

Best!

I absolutely agree with the above reply. Your personal essay should be story of your life and accomplishments. You can explain your D+ in your supplements if there are questions that pertain to hardships and withdrawals.

Leave the person essay with all positive stuff and achievements.

would any of you recommend even mentioning "improvement" that you've shown? or would that mean you did poorly at the start, so keep it out?
